Last month we announced Soundarden's return after a 15 year hiatus by
unveiling the new song that accompanies the film's credits. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has released an exclusive interview with the rock icon that reveals a lot more.
Not very much is said about The Avengers, but it is let known that "Live to Rise," the song in the film, is a soundtrack exclusive track that will not be on the band's upcoming album. Cornell said about writing the song:
This song came arduously. It's different, because it has to be a Soundgarden song. It has to resonate with every band member. Writing a song for The Avengers film, it has to be lyrically not specific to the movie or the story, but it has to work with it. It wasn't so easy. But it turned out absolutely a Soundgarden song.
He also discussed the band as Superheroes:
Yeah, that would be good. One is the cat, one is the spaceman, one is the monster, and one is the guy with the star on his face -- whatever Paul Stanley is supposed to be.
I suppose the comments here are as good as any to flesh out the characters. What characters do you think the cat, spaceman, monster and whatever Paul Stanley is supposed to be?
Read the entire interview, mostly comics unrelated but awesome nonetheless, over at
