CONFIRMED: Captain America Composer Alan Silvestri IS Scoring The Avengers!

After rumors arose, an official source has confirmed that Alan Silvestri, who composed Captain America: The First Avenger, is re-teaming with Marvel on The Avengers. Check it out!

A few weeks ago, last month, it was rumored that in the latest issue of FSM Online, Captain America: The First Avenger composer, Alan Silvestri, was re-teaming with Marvel Studios on their Joss Whedon-directed blockbuster, The Avengers. There were also rumors that Silvestri's wife leaked the news early on Facebook.

Well now, Alan Silvestri's filmography has been updated on his official webpage, evidently confirming that he will indeed be taking charge of the musical arrangement for next summer's highly-anticipated assembly of Marvel's mightiest heroes and heroines.

Credits falling under The Avengers and Captain America: The First Avenger include Predators, Predators 2, The Mummy Returns, and two more that earned him Academy Award nominations - Forrest Gump and Polar Express. He's also famous for scoring the Back to the Future trilogy. Alan stated in the past that he'd be very happy to continue the relationship with Marvel.

Considering Marvel's The Avengers is in post-production, and has been for a little over a month, we can expect this news to be flaunted more publicly sooner than later. I for one think Alan Silvestri's Captain America score was Marvel Studios' best, behind 2008's Iron Man. The composition had a unique heroic element to it, which is perfect for a film full of heroes. Of course, being that this is The Avengers, I'm hoping the score will be Silvestri's best yet. What do you think?

Marvel's The Avengers is the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner with Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston, directed by Joss Whedon, Marvel's The Avengers will be released May 4, 2012.

I wonder if he would be willing (and legally able) to use elements of the other previous scores from the Marvel Studios stable?

Thor, Cap, Ironman and Hulk all have their own strong 'themes' from those scores. Would be cool to hint at them if possible.

Would seem strange not to use the 'Sons of Odin' score when both Loki and Thor are on screen sharing their inevitable touching moment.

^nah,Zimmer's style simply does not fit The Avengers,I like his scores but not for this.

Should be good! He'll need to write a very memorable central theme for the team though, and retain/write individual ones for the characters. A good score with a recognisable main theme makes the film so much better :-)

Wow, I didn't expect this one. Excellent choice IMO. Although I thought Steve Jablonsky would've been a tiny bit more fitting for the job. COOL nonetheless.

[frick] Zimmer. He is a new guy when everything comes down to film scoring. Did you know that he makes his employees compose the MOST of the scores? He barely came up with something original, even if he did, it was his 'employees'. I despise him.

Alan Silvestri is probably one of the most experienced film scorers we have today and I have full faith in him. The Avengers is gonna have an original theme which will rock our socks off.

But of course I'd have been much happier with a choice like John Williams, but he's too busy working with Spielberg.

Great choice, but i hope Silvestri gets wilder in this one.

"Mummy Returns" was a great example of how far he can go.

Cap's score was the best one from Marvel Studios IMO. Thor's was underwhelming, Incredible Hulk's was pretty good. The only song I liked from Iron Man was "Driving with the Top Down", and haven't really listened to IM2 score.

This is fantastic news! Silvestri has always been one of my favorite composers. He did incredible on the Cap score and I wonder what he'll bring to the plate with The Avengers. I pray he includes a lot of strings and brass to carry the melodies.

can someone name an amazing silvestri score?

I have been praying and hoping since Iron Man that each new composer has been paying attention to the other Marvel movies' scores, so that by the time Avengers roles around, the Iron Man theme, the Hulk theme, the Thor theme, and the Cap theme would literally fit into each other, creating one amazingly giant theme... I realize it's very unlikely but I hope they really outthought me on this.

Having scored CA, do you think this news might suggest that Cap will fulfil the "leader" role in the Avengers? Hiring Silvestri so he can weave the Cap theme he's already written into the upcoming movie as Cap takes prominence?

Hmmmmmm

I guess...

His CA:TFA score captured the energy of the action on scene.

Plus Joss said he wrote TA with Cap as our narrator of sorts since he's a guy new to this world.

thanks guys :O)

predator and BttF are indeed great scores but both of those scores are from the '80s, does he still have the chops?

I have the same concern with horner and amazing spider-man. he did the score for wrath of kane but that was in the 80's does he still have 'it'?

Alan Silvestri's score in CAPTAIN AMERICA: The First Avenger is the best score I've heard in years!!!

@TheQuestion: Silvestri's music sounds nothing like Zimmer's. Zimmer's is more darker toned, Silvestri's music is more energetic and uplifting. I don't see how he's "poor man's Zimmer.lol

[Frick] yeah! His work on Captain America: The First Avenger really pleased me, and the main theme of that movie was really glorious that it's still echoing in my head until now...well, probably it's just because I'm a Captain America fan, lmao. But whatever, there isn't any necessary reason needed to make people go see The Avengers, but if one needs more, this one could just be one of the good reasons. :)

He's great, but I hope he does something more epic than in TFA. Not complaining, but Thor's was much better.

The score for Captain America was shyt. Only good score from Marvel were in Spiderman and Ironman
spiderneil
spiderneil - 11/4/2011, 8:54 AM
I thought the spider-man score was generic.

shot me down in flames but the only score in a comic movie I really like (and I'm including TDK/BB) is the superman score. moving, iconic, timeless.
