Don Cheadle Debunks War Machine Appearing in The Avengers & Confirms Spin-off Progress!

Don Cheadle, the actor behind Rhodey of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, debunks the armored War Machine appearing in The Avengers , but confirms progress on his spin-off.

Speaking shortly with MTV, Don Cheadle, the actor who has taken over as James Rhodes via Iron Man 2 in Marvel's Cinematic Universe, speaks on his armored alias War Machine. He answers instantly if he'll appear in the crossover spectacle The Avengers, and speaks on the progress of his spin-off film. Also commenting on Jon Favreau's directorship departure for Iron Man 3, watch below.


"They're developing it now, they're working on that," Cheadle told MTV News when asked about a "War Machine" movie. "I think they've hired a writer, so we'll see how it goes. It would be a lot of fun. I don't think he shows up in ['Avengers']," said Cheadle. "I think he's kind of a lone wolf."

"People move on for various reasons, and Jon's very busy," he said. "He's going to do 'Cowboys And Aliens,' and he has a ton of other projects on his slate, so he's fine. I don't actually know what happened, I'm kind of out of that loop."


Seeming that hes speaking theoretically, I believe there could be reference of some sort in Joss Whedon's Avengers film, but what do you think? Anyhow, with Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Clark Gregg, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, and Kevin Pennington (who confirmed to me via Twitter) assembling May 4, next year, Iron Man 3 hits May 3, 2013.

He dont need to appear as War Machine on the avengers, just a Rhodey cameo is fine, but as Pepper is not gonna appear, so I guess neither Rhodey will.

He was never at any time confirmed to be in The Avengers.

I still don't think War Machine will get his own film. Im not saying hes not an important character. But hes not important enough for them to spend alot of time on making, as they would with Iron Man.

I'm actually really pleased about this. Both Don Cheadle and War Machine are great, but there is no need for him to be in The Avengers! A Rhodey cameo is fine, but keep the focus on Iron Man and the rest of the team. Hell yeah to a solo movie though. Great find DCMF! :)

I'd sure give a WM movie a watch but I'm not sure Rhodes has enough personality to carry a movie solo. With goosd writers and acting though who knows.

Not sure I'm feeling a War Machine movie. Not that War Machine isn't cool, but I can't see Don Cheadle being a good lead in this particular action movie. And from a mainstream point of view it will just be viewed as another Iron Man movie but without RDJ. Eh......

No War Machine movie. Why would we need that? We already have Iron Man. A War Machine movie just cheapens the concept of Iron Man. Also it starts to tread dangerously into that whole "Superman, Superboy, Supergirl" territory that DC loves to get into. Why over exploit the character like that? I love the Rhodes character in the films but one dose of War Machine was enough. Iron Man doesn't need a sidekick.

I like the idea of war machine appearing in a movie other than ironman, but i think they should make it like a shield movie or something. War machine isn't popular enough with the general public to do well on his own I don't think, but maybe with fury, widow, hawkeye, and maybe black panther if we're lucky he would do ok. Kinda like an Avengers B-team movie ;)

They will make the War Machine movie once the Iron Man movies are done, that way they can continue on the series without having to overuse Iron Man.

@Sto0pid True, but not at the point they're at in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first Avengers movie is dealing with the original team -- unless you wanna get deeper and say that Ant-Man and Wasp were original members and Cap wasn't, but they were the main team for quite some time before Rhodes ever joined the Avengers.

I like War Machine but we are already going to get IM3. We don't need a copy of that. Marvel needs to spend their resources on developing some of their other characters. If they want to bring a black character to the big screen give the Black Panther or Luke Cage/Heroes for Hire a chance.They can even start working on the cosmic characters, like they've talked about, instead of this.

~im actually suprised that Don-Man is back as war machine in his own movie but i want the movie to go in the Modern war machine direction with new bad ass war machine suits~
