Following the latest cover reveal from Entertainment Weekly, inside the issue, via Buzz Sugar, The Avengers star Robert Downey Jr. and director Joss Whedon discuss elements of the development process. While Downey dishes on pushing director Joss Whedon for the script, Whedon comments on a struggle developing ir.

"I said, ‘I don’t know what you’re thinking, but Tony needs to drive this thing. He [Whedon] was like, ‘OK, let’s try that.’ We tried it, and it didn’t work. Because this is a different sort of thing. Everybody is just an arm of the octopus"

Every day I make some boneheaded mistake. And I go, ‘Really? Wow. So no learning curve, huh?’ There is a weird element of: They handed me one of the biggest movies of all time, and I’m making it up as I go"

You guys don't really know much about screenwriting, do you? Or about Whedon's reputation as an excellent writer.

Good reputation or not, "I'm making it up as I go" is enough to make folks nervous.

Agreed, Greengo.

His life depends on it the sense that if it fails it'll be hard for him to find a job. His reputation will be damaged.

That said, the Avengers will probably be very successful due to the sheer scale and anticipation of this movie.

So it will be successful either because of Whedon or in spite of him.

True that Greengo. Hopefully Whedon delivers because I have yet to see work from him that I've actually enjoyed.

Wuss Whedon sucks as a filmmaker. He shouldn't be directing this.
