Joss Whedon Assures THE AVENGERS' 3D Usage Will Not Be "Obnoxious!"

Writer-director Joss Whedon has addressed any concerns regarding Marvel's The Avengers movie being converted to 3D, following confirmation of the format usage. Check it out!

While Disney announced roughly an hour ago that Marvel's The Avengers flick would be released in the ever-growing 3D format, the writer & director Joss Whedon has opened up on the matter exclusively with Joblo. Ultimately promising that the format usage won't be repulsive, for those concerned, read on below!

Whedon knew from the very beginning his film would eventually be converted to 3D saying he thought about the format "every second" while filming. Whedon is sensitive to the concerns of audiences admitting "there definitely are movies that shouldn't be in 3D" while assuring fanboys "THE AVENGERS isn't obnoxiously 3D."

"There's no, 'Oh look, we're going to spend 20 minutes going through this tunnel because it's in 3D!' And no one is pointing at the screen the entire time. But it's an action movie. Things tend to hurtle toward the screen anyway."

Whedon says he was 100% behind the idea from the beginning. "Yeah, it's fun!...I'm not a big fan of extreme long lens, talky movies - I like to see the space I'm in and relate to it, so 3D kinda fits my aesthetic anyway. And the technology has advanced so far in the past couple years."

Marvel's The Avengers 3D is the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner with Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston, directed by Joss Whedon, Marvel's The Avengers will be released May 4, 2012.

Haha, Whedon is awesome. I hate 3D, but since I probably won't have any choice, I'll have to see in that format. Hopefully it will be a good conversion.

TheIrishAvenger: What? It's a cool looking shot of Cap, and Whedon probably paying homage to that First Avenger scene.

@WolvieCBM

I hate the screen shot. My problem isn't with the shot itself as it is with Evans pose. The way he swings his hip forward is so gay...

Sometimes I'd rather see movies shot in 3D than see them when their converted but I trust Joss so I'll give it a chance its only 12 bucks anyway...

Or they could...you know...not convert it to 3D and have it be a perfectly good film on its own.

Good to hear they're not forcing scenes to 3D (and I believe it because I didn't see anything forced in Thor or Caps).

Not gonna watch it in 3D anyway.

Why is this news?

Here is an interview with Stellan Skarsgard from AUGUST discussing the 3d conversion decision:

I may watch it in 3D for Scar Jo and Cobie Smulders, if the conversion is good during their screen time, it'll be worth the extra cash.
