I was a little torn on the Maria Hill focused alternate opening but this deleted scene extending our introduction to Captain America is A+ material. AND there's more Stan Lee and who doesn't love that!

The Avengers is an American superhero film produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is the sixth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is written and directed by Joss Whedon and features an ensemble cast, which includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson. In The Avengers, Nick Fury, director of the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D., recruits Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America to save the world from destruction.

Development of The Avengers began when Marvel Studios received a grant from Merrill Lynch in April 2005. After the success of the film Iron Man in May 2008, Marvel announced that The Avengers would be released in July 2011. With the signing of Scarlett Johansson in March 2009, the film was pushed back for a 2012 release. Whedon was brought on board in April 2010 and rewrote the screenplay that was originally written by Zak Penn. Production began in April 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, before moving to Cleveland, Ohio in August 2011 and New York City in September 2011. The film was converted to 3D in post-production.

The Avengers was released in the United States on May 4, 2012 in 2D and 3D.

It changes the tone, but it would have been in a good way, shows a lot more compassion and soul to cap, i feel like they made cap diff from tfa, and not for the better. Loved him in tfa

I can kind of see why all these deleted scenes were cut. This is a fascinating scene like the alternate intro. but it does definitely make the movie a little heavy. It creates quite a jarring contrast from the lighter moments to moments like this. Also, if they would have kept this in, it would have required them to focus more on Cap which I think was their original idea. Having the film told through caps eyes. Anyway, good scene, totally understand why it was cut.

Although I did like Stan Lee's cameo.

This was one of the things I wanted to see in The Avengers, I really wanted them to capitalize on the whole 'man out of time' thing. Needless to say, a small clip like this would've fleshed out Steve Rogers a lot, especially to people who have not seen Captain America.

As much as I want to say, "Why did they leave that out of the film?", I understand that it would alter the tone of the film. I must admit that I was drawn to TA partly because I wanted to see Steve in scenes like this one. But I respect Joss Whedon's decision.

He didn't want to ruin such golden oppurtunities for the people who would helm the CA sequel. He did a fantastic job in keeping minimum development for all characters even though it doesn't seem like it after watching the film. He didn't majorly alter any of the characters so that the makers of the solo films could still do a good job and would not have limited stuff to work with.
Loved the film.

The problem with this scene is it would have required the film to focus more time on Steve Rodgers, leaving other characters even more underdeveloped (Hawkeye, Thor). It's a great idea, and something I hope they explore in his solo film, but for a movie like the Avengers it needed to be cut.

Even though Hawkeye and Thor weren't used nearly enough for my taste, this films was still bad ass. It better be nominated with TDKR for best picture!!

I would have kept this one in as well. The alt intro was cool to look at, but I'm glad that was changed. I would have really liked to have seen this in there.

As much as i love The Avengers, this scene woulda made the movie even better imo.

I dont think it would of made it more of a downer only stronger.

Also saving stuff for the sequel is creative lazyness if that where the case. You should aways bring your A+ game to every project.

Cap needed to be front and center.
Should of been focused on a bit more, coulda been even more awesome and likeable.

We've already seen this and while it is great think about it. After that they would have had to introduce Loki and the cube after this better saved for Cap sequel

Like I said, I really hope they explore this more in the Captain America sequel. There is definitely a really good movie there to be told about Cap. being out of time and trying to re connect in modern society. I really hope they keep his sequel much more personal, and don't try to do too much.

Let Thor and GOTG stories be these massive epics. Cap should be a much more intimate story focusing on just him. I think it would make for a much more entertaining Avengers sequel. I personally want to see each character grow a little bit before teaming up again.
