Mark Ruffalo Reassures The Hulk Has 'Team Playing' Issues In The Avengers!

Although it should be expected from the enormous green rage monster, actor Mark Ruffalo recently assured with MTV that the Incredible Hulk in Marvel Studios' superhero extravaganza The Avengers, will be a bit of a ball hog, having team player issues. I can't say I've read much in the comics, but one thing I found great about Hulk from the animated films was that, even battling on a team, he still wanted to have the highest body-count. "Hulk strongest there is" runs through my mind during this brief video.

"I think he has some team playing issues. I would definitely say that off the bat, yes," Ruffalo said. That may be an understatement, but how could the Avengers ever truly assemble if the Hulk wasn't going to play along? Ruffalo hinted at a more conscientious Hulk. "He might be heading more towards being a team player than ever before. He has some serious ball hog issues, I would say, in general," Ruffalo continued.

Marvel's The Avengers is the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner with Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston, directed by Joss Whedon, Marvel's The Avengers will be released May 4, 2012.

That sounds great. More importantly though, I really hope Hulk has a personality in the movie (like in the comics and cartoon) instead of just being a mindless monster like in TIH. He NEEDS to talk also, even if its "Hulk doesn't like big hammer." No more just HULK SMASH! Also, he needs to call Thor "Goldilocks" at least once, please Whedon!

I agree with you guys, I hope the hulk has a personality other than being a rampaging beast lol But from Ruffalos comment I can see there getting it right so far. I can def see the hulk as a ball hogger.

@ncreb ... i was kanoodling that earlier. some basic premise like that would be good, though then loki could easily trick him by pretending to be his friend. my guess is somehow they imbue him with a sliver of banner intelligence

(off topic plug for Irredeemable comic -- gents, if you haven't read it, find it now, it's in trades ... seriously wicked good ... Mark Waid of Kingdome Come and Cap'n American i think on he marvel side)

@N, you got some of those details mixed up, but I get your point lol. Hulk is uncontrollable by OTHER people, and hopefully Bruce can control his Hulk side now (I'm hoping).

@N, Your right now that I remember he wasn't "mindless". But he needs to be more in control and intelligent this time around.

i dont want them to do the whole "talking hulk" thing like in the show that would ruin him imo i hope they stay with the silent yet semi-inteligent version in TIH

I'm calling it here... Hulk will bring down the monster/alien starship "The Leviathan"... thus turning the tide in The Avengers' favor in the climatic battle...

I have to disagree with Ha1frican. The Hulk has to have a brutish intellect. There has to be the split in personality between Bruce and the Hulk or every time there is "team work" the Hulk will calm down and revert to Banner. They should do it like they did in the animated series. Hulk agrees to be an Avenger as long as Banner lets him stay the Hulk more.

I'd love to see a scene where they test the Hulk's abilities. Like they stimulate him through electrocution (like in TIH) and measure his strength and speed, etc.

Hulk really didn't say too much in the Incredible Hulk. He may not be mindless, but he is definitely more of an animal than anything else. If he can shout "Hulk smash!", why not make him at least form partial sentences. He did mumble "leave me alone", which you would probably miss towards the beginning unless you watched it with subtitles.

So yeah, I'd like him to respond to his teammates. And I can't imagine he'd just roar and jump at Loki...

I believe for the Avengers (at least from what we've seen so far) they absolutely 100% nailed the look of the Hulk. I'm saying that now and all the CGI isn't even finished yet. The Ang Lee Hulk was too light green and tiny compared to how big Hulk should actually be. The Ed Norton Hulk look improved, by being taller than the Ang Lee Hulk with a more muscular body. However, the area the Ed Norton Hulk screwed up on was his face a bit, because it wasn't detailed enough. Finally, the Ruffalo Hulk (again from what we've seen so far) looks awesome. The face looks like it will be extremely detailed upon completion. Not to mention the size of the Ruffalo Hulk is right on and even his face looks way more Hulk like than the previous two versions. Marvel I likey.
