Rumor: The Main Villain Of Marvel Cinematic Universe's Next Saga Has Been Revealed

The Multiverse's Mightiest Heroes will assemble to battle Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, and a new rumour claims to reveal which villain will feature in the MCU's next Saga.

While Adam Driver's Mister Sinister is set to take centre stage in the upcoming X-Men reboot, it appears he won't be the Mutant Saga's big bad.

Nathaniel Milbury appearing in multiple X-Men-related projects seems a given, especially as he's so entwined with the Summers family bloodline. However, when it comes to finding the next Thanos or Kang the Conqueror Doctor Doom, Marvel Studios may have a bigger name in mind.

According to insider @MyTimeToShineH, the current plan is for Apocalypse to be the next Saga's big bad. This follows rumblings about him pulling Sinister's strings in X-Men and hard-to-believe claims that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson could play En Sabah Nur.

Apocalypse would be a fitting choice of overarching villain for the next Saga, especially with the spotlight shifting to the X-Men, and he's a big enough threat for the Avengers to get involved.

Still, it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing to see Earth's Mightiest Heroes perhaps focus on villains from their own rogues' galleries in "smaller-scale" Avengers movies like Age of Ultron rather than universe-spanning events.

This early on, Marvel Studios' plans are likely in flux. While X-Men, Ghost Rider, and Black Panther 3 all have 2028 release dates, the next Saga has now been officially named (Kevin Feige did, however, refer to it as the "Mutant Saga" in an interview earlier this year).

Created by writer Louise Simonson and artist Jackson Guice, Apocalypse first appeared in X-Factor #5 in 1986. The ancient mutant believes in the concept of "survival of the fittest" and hopes to bring about the evolution of mutantkind by any means necessary, often through destructive and genocidal means.

Ultimately, Apocalypse sees himself as a God-like figure and seeks to impose his vision of mutant supremacy upon the world. Along the way, he's assembled various groups of mutant followers, typically known as the "Four Horsemen," to serve his purposes. Oscar Isaac previously played the villain in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse.

Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the untitled X-Men movie stars Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) as Jean Grey, Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) as Professor Charles Xavier, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, and Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm.

Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) also stars as Emma Frost, alongside Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), who plays Nathaniel Milbury, an alias of Mister Sinister in the comics.

X-Men will be released exclusively in theaters May 5, 2028.

There was a build up with the Infinity Saga. When Thanos finally arrived, it meant something.

The Multiverse Saga seems thrown together. Doom was made the villain at the last moment. There is no true buildup for me and it doesnt feel the same as before.

Hopefully, Feige does a better job with Apocalypse.

Apocalypse makes sense as a pick, but personally I think his role in the Krakoa stuff was the most interesting thing done with him in awhile. I just don’t see what would be exciting about having everyone team up to punch a really strong guy at this point, and the stuff that does make him an interesting villain only makes sense for one, two at the most, really focused movies.

@OmegaBlack13 - I agree

Apocalypse can be interesting though if he is the big bad of the next Saga then he’ll likely just be teased throughout while having 1-2 movies to himself which should be fine.

Finish Secret Wars and pull the plug. Supers movies need to take a long break. The DCU really sucks now; and outside the 2 Avengers movies, the MCU probably will too.

They're just damaging the brand. All the brands.

If true then I could see it even though I’m not personally too big of a fan of the character…

Javier Bardem for En Sabah Nur!!.

Give me a live action Age of Apocolypse, but after we’ve had time to establish what the norm is for the X-Men.

If Apocalypse is the next big bad, I'm gonna expect that like, 90% of the next phase will be mutant heavy and The Avengers will be taking a step back from the spotlight.

This makes the most sense.

I do hope though that MARVEL will take advantage of their villains here on out and not kill them off in their debut film. It seems they are reversing this with Ultron and seeing how much mileage they can get out of Scarlet Witch too.

We need an MCU where Galactus, Doom, Annihilus, Ultron, Apocalypse, Sinister, Magneto, and others can appear across multiple projects freely. I think the lead up to the big bad method worked with Thanos, but I’d like to see a different dynamic after Secret Wars.

Doom replacing Kang will be portrayed as the ultimate multiverse threat, and compared to that Magneto or Apocalypse or almost any other villain will feel like a much lesser threat.

Even Thanos will feel like nothing compared to this version of Doom, and Apocalypse will feel like nothing compared to Thanos.

Apocalypse was pure levels of shit in the Fassbender/McEvoy trilogy but transitioning from Oscar Isaac to The Rock seems like a MASSIVE downturn course correction

Why would anyone be invested in this? If the stink of X-Men: Apocaylpse was not bad enough to damage interest in them adapting the character they also risk the general audiences just viewing him as another bruting Thanos type villain. You also have Disney acknowledging that Phase 4/5/6 were effectively meaningless as they intend to bridge the gap between Endgame and Doomsday... so why would people invest the next 5-10 years for a storyline about them facing off against Apocalypse?

I also doubt The Rock would be playing Apocalypse because he is currently 54 and would be 56 by the time X-Men releases and 66 by the time we see Apocalypse' arc complete. Josh Brolin who played Thanos was only 51 when Endgame released.

Is the MCU bringing in a new audience? Or is it just all people who grew up with Phase 1-3? With continuity dragging it down at what point do they start to see diminishing returns because I don't see people sticking around and watching a lot of the post Secret Wars content because they appear to be only coming back for strong franchises/event films such as Spider-man, Deadpool/Wolverine and Avengers.

Staking the future of the MCU on Supernatural characters and X-Men who are characterized as anti-heroes/villains is probably not the best decision for a franchise that has acknowledged over 5 years of media is being discarded.

Have Apocalypse as the big threat, then when it looks like he'll win, the Shi'ar shows up to F everything. And in come the Starjammers.

No rock. They will never be stupid enough to give that worn out old meathead this role, or any hopefully.

I like it! It’s not Magneto as the villain, or even the maybe-villain.

I think his attempted takeover for DC tarnished his image. That was shitty. However, just even with the weird size of his bean-shaped head alone, he’d be a great pick for playing Apocalypse.

@BiffDitko -The Rock:Absolutely agree. Everything has to be about him. He's so selfeNAMORed. I would have liked him as Namor, actually.
About Conan: Nah I was just fantasising about a real good true-to-source material Conan live action series, adapting some of the best R.E. Howard Stories, tarring Ritchson. Looking forward to this Genndy Tartakovsky animated series, though.
