The "Mystery Villain" in THE AVENGERS revealed after all?

The "Mystery Villain" in THE AVENGERS revealed after all?

Speculation and debate amongst fans as to who exactly The Avengers will be teaming up against come May is nothing new here at CBM. Is the answer right in front of us?

First of all, I personally would have rather seen a Kree/Skrull set up in this film, but that's not going to happen. And YES, perhaps it is too early for something of that magnitude and blah blah blah. The two major candidates in recent discussions seem to narrow down to The Badoon and the Knights of Wundagore. So if it were my choice between the two I'd probably rather go with the Badoon. However, from what I've seen, the only thing that seems kind of Badoon'ish (if you will) is SOME of the weaponry and the purple blood we've seen splatted all over Cap and Thor..

With that being said, lets move on to why I'm leaning more in the other direction..

1. "WHO EVER SAID THEY WERE ALIENS"

Do you recall the interview when Joss Whedon said: "Who ever said they were aliens" I do.. It was a response in reference to just who/what the police were firing at in the first trailer. It may have been a trickery line, but none the less reminded me that we all knew much less about this film than we'd probably like to admit..

2. REMEMBER WHEN THIS IMAGE WAS REVEALED?

The first initial reaction was interesting. More than a few CMB members stated that, it either looked like or reminded them of Predator..

Now, set that thought aside and take a good look at these fancy out-fits.. Look familiar???

3. EVERYONE'S RIDING A FLYING... SOMETHING..

Just going by what was shown in that teaser's teaser, those somethings could very well be the "Atomic Steeds". These images aren't near quality enough to closely compare but the similarities are undeniable.

Atomic Steeds were created to be used by the Knights of Wundagore for the High Evolutionary. If these are indeed the Steeds we've seen flying around, are they also what we've seen crashed on set in NY?

TRIVIA LINE - (IN THE COMICS) The Avengers were on a mission in Transia when Beast found one and actually used it during that mission. When it was over, the Atomic Steed was taken back to Avengers Mansion and kept in storage.

Down the line their most popular known operators have been the Knights of Wundagore, The Avengers, and the super villain group known as Thunderbolts (which we can all be sure won't be in this film)

What do you think?

THE BADOON.. THE KNIGHTS OF WUNDAGORE.. NEITHER.. OR BOTH..

I would have preferred the Skrulls, but I'm cool with The Badoon.

I didn't see the set picture of that weapon until a couple of days ago.

And the picture of the director's monitor is the first time I've ever seen that.

I don't think Joss Whedon would make a amalgam of the Badoon and the Knights of Wundagore. I'm leaning more towards the Knights of Wundagore.

Its stupid to introduce unknown villains. Must b sumthin more dangerous and familiar. If not this movie will suck.

Yeah, I think you guys are right. It probably is one of these. IDK which. Still I hope they introduce Captain Marvell at any rate.

Because then we can get to Ms. Marvel.

And that's a must!

Why don't they just tell us...and get it over with?

Wouldn't we all shit our pants if there wasn't a secret villain, and it turned out that Loki used the Cosmic Cube to just...fabricate all these soldiers? LOL

Seems the way to go. An all out invasion may be too much for the first movie, and the Knights would basically be even with the Avengers. Gives each hero a 1-on-1. But...Loki DID say he has an army. The Knights alone are hardly an army.

Judging by their names and appearance alone I'm willing to bet on it that it's not the Badoon or Knights. Plus they're quite unknown. My final guess is... Negative Zone Insectoids. Loki is transported to the N-Zone at the end of Thor, I bet.

Annihilus' name is mentioned in the url of each wallpaper page of the official site.

Purple blood could be mean nothing. They could suddenly decide the Kree or the Skrull or the Inhumans or whoever, have purple blood. Or it could be KROGAAAAN!!!! (you have to say it like they say it, otherwise there's no point) It singles out the Predators though ;)

I don't know why the High Evolutionary would be BFFs with Loki in the movie-verse. I'm also a bit puzzled as to how he'd suddenly get that kind of technology and those resources, although I SUPPOSE they could "cheat" and say it comes from the Cosmic Cube.

I don't think Annihilus will be in it though. Much as I want something from Annhilation Wave, I just feel as though he would have little to accomplish on Earth. Also, considering how the mocap actors move, and their basic stance while fighting the two Chris'... I don't think they're Insectoids.

I still think it'd be freakin epic if Loki just spawned Fox's big sci-fi horror/action icons out of the Cosmic Cube like Gozer does the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. The Hulk tearing some Xenomorphs apart with his bare hands only to have acid spill all over him. Thor disabling the Predators' cloak with some heavy thunderstorms. It would almost be worth the colossal lawsuit.

someone on another post on this website, posted a video for the upcoming avengers video game. In the game the aliens they are fighting are labeled skrull. so even though joss whedon says one thing does not mean that he doesnt mean another.......

look back through the archives.....you will see......

Yes, and we also pointed out that the Shocker and the Scorpion, while managing to be in just about every single Spider-man game to date, have NOT been present in the movies.

Feige said no Skrulls, though that could be a smoke screen like Marion Cotillard and her "original character".

That's like saying Monica Rambeau, Mantis, and Moondragon should be in the first line-up. Not that I don't want more super-heroines to somewhat balance out the sausage fest, but you'd go with Wasp and Ms Marvel before anyone else. Nebula's a character no one has heard of, and sorry, but no one's really interested in Space Pirates.... well, outside Serenity.

the photo with nick fury above, could be anyone really....i would hate to see a predator like creature, and I dont think for a minute they will do that.
In my eye I see nick Fury facing down BARON ZEMO...I can see fur round the helmet(?) collar and a big cape......wait I also see ANNIHILUS ..

One other thing...Does anyone remember things called secrets....the cast and crew will be sworn to secrecy.....Imagine if you will.....superbowl....adverts.....avengers.......SKRULLS!
I am still holding out and putting off the disappointment.

Nebula's such a minor character that she can fit in with everything we have going on, and any other actual characters on Loki's side, while simultaneously introducing Thanos in the background, allowing Loki to manipulate her into going back on the supposed deal they make. This puts some *space* between Loki and Thanos, and kind of frees him of Thanos's immediate wrath (Nebula was working for Thanos before Loki manipulates her into making off with his tech and disappearing into the vast universe). Nebula objects before Loki puts her under mind control warning that he will find them wherever they go.

Nebula conquers and enslaves worlds, she's always been interested in the gems, and when she successfully steals all the gems in the comics she would have really destroyed the entire universe and not restored it. Thanos even turns to the good side briefly to help stop her. She's unknown yes, but that's why she's perfect. Her real name has never even been revealed. Can be leading gangsters from across the cosmos, these can be Skrull, Badoon, Kree, Rigellians, Dark Elves, Rock Giants, etc etc for movie purposes. They're mercenaries & space gangsters, they're really only serving Thanos through Nebula. Only thing that doesn't really fit this theory is the knights of Wundagore if those are in fact the atomic steeds. Think of her as mainly just being there as Loki's General leading from some mother-ship type thing representing the stolen sanctuary II-- until the end when she regains control of herself and reestablishes a connection with Thanos (who she claims she's related to for a status boost, but isn't really). This and the theft of Thanos' forces infuriates Thanos. Nebula betrays Loki and returns to Thanos, but Thanos inflicts an even harsher punishment on her then Loki will receive from Odin, leaving her in a state between life and death, even though she may have returned to him with the space gem. Also, with Nebula Loki could pick up any number of various races, or any mixture of them(whatever they want to make it for the movie), all in one place: Badoon, Skrulls and maybe even Kree mercenaries who've temporarily put aside their differences. That would cut down a lot of time for how Loki gathers a mixed army of cosmic races, if he does. And he could also bring things like the dark elves and have them operate from their shiny new orbiting station, the one Thanos wants back but loses interest in when Nebula informs him the cube is on Earth with Loki (something he wants to access certain dimensions and other -verses). Eventually the Avengers find a way to free people who are under Loki's control. When Thanos learns Loki has the cosmic cube he instructs the now mindcontrol-free Nebula, from the Sanctuary III, to turn the forces on Loki and to capture the cosmic cube, destroying any earthlings that interfere. Forcing Loki, and the Avengers to resort to desperate measures. Midgard serpent successfully drives off the alien hordes the Avengers left but grows out of Loki's control, forcing a brief team-up to stop its rampage. Loki realizes what he's unleashed on the universe has to be put down, even if it means accepting temporary loss. Thanos thinks he can combine the cube with his tech to interact with the negative zone and other hard to access dimensions.

months ago that an associate of mine, who happens to be involved with the film told me it was the Badoons, I mentioned this on an article about the new toys for the film. it's there in CBM history.

Perhaps though as films are alwyas subject to change it's just an amalgamation of different bad guys.

Analysing the pros and cons

SKRULLS: Based upon early internet supposedly inside info and a cancelled video game. However it has been debunked by Kevin Feige; he may however be lying.

CHITAURI: Based upon speculation of Skrulls as they are an ultimat universe version of them and THE AVENGERS has strong ultimate universe ties, e.g., SLJ as Nick Fury. Nothing directly discounting them but nothing really supporting them either.

KREE: Based upon the appearance of the guns but nothing else. Possibly discounted by KF saying that they were not trying to set up the Kree-Skrull war.

BADOON: Speculation based upon the plans for a GotG movie and reports from footage of them looking beast-like with metallic armour.

DEVIANTS: Based on reports of footage of them all looking different and having different colours. Also KF questioning whether they were really aliens.

KNIGHTS of WUNDAGORE: Based upon footage reports of them all looking different and beast-like (but not animal-like) and also KF questioning whether they wree really aliens. Not supported by the numbers required for an army, the fact that they are not villainous and they require a lot of back story.

ATLANTEANS: Based upon the staff-like weapons seen on the set and reports of the leviathan, but mainly fanboy wishing. Unlikely given Namor's lack of prior introduction and set-up required and footage reports of appearance.

Be back later to cover the rest.

What if they barrow a little from everywhere? Wasn't something officially penned somewhere saying Loki travels all the 9 realms to manipulate, plan, and form an alliance or something??

Here's what's posted on IMDB next to STORY LINE:

"Nick Fury and the international agency S.H.I.E.L.D. bring together a team of super humans to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki & his VARIOUS MEMBERED ARMY." <--This official??

ALSO:
@ecksmanfan/@GraphicCity Yes.. I did state that "The two major candidates in RECENT DISCUSSIONS seem to narrow down to The Badoon and the Knights of Wundagore."

This editorial was somewhat of a nod to the previous info contributed by other editors/users like: @RorMachine (and,or) @ScarletSpeedster (on the Badoon theory) and @Hawksblueeyes (on the Knights Of Wundagore theory) I'm merely chiming in with a few extra pics for comparison, and taking opinions.. Wasn't trying to discredit anyone. Just simply agreeing that these theories somewhat fit..

@batlizard11 Whedon did say sometime back that the comic readers WOULD be familiar with the "invaders" or Loki's "army" So I'd like to think they're not just some generic War Of The Worlds type aliens.. Then again could just be whedon with his damn tricker again! lol

-While all this unknowing eats away at me, it's also damn impressive that they've managed to keep a lid on it this long. In a way It's kind of good not knowing. Keeps the excitement alive..
