Tony "Iron Man" Stark's New Ride Made Specifically For The Avengers!

There's been some speculation on why Tony Stark has ditched his signature Audi R8 for The Avengers, and it turns out Acura built the vehicle specifically for the movie. Hit the jump for details and a somewhat crazy theory...

Auto Blog has the following statement from Acura spokesman Gary Robinson, who sheds some light on the decision to switch for his trademark Audi R8 to a vehicle which left motoring enthusiasts completely baffled; a mysterious Acura sports car. While this is pretty unexciting compared to the fantastic set photos of the cast we've seen over the past 48 hours (find 'em all HERE) hopefully this will satisfy the curiosity of some!

"As you may know, Acura has been in the Marvel Comics Universe films as the official car of their fictional law enforcement agency called S.H.I.E.L.D. That relationship continues for The Avengers. The open-top sports car that was photographed yesterday is a one-off, fictional car that was made just for the movie and will not be produced. That said, as you may also know, our CEO has said publicly that we are studying the development of a new sportscar, but we can't say any more about it at this time."

You know, I look at that "fictional vehicle" and can't help but think of this...

I'm not necessarily talking about the specific model, but we did see a Howard Stark prototype in Captain America: The First Avenger, so who's to say Tony hasn't come up with a little something since Iron Man 2? Plus, we've got a Quinjet, so why not? It's highly unlikely, but it would be pretty freaking cool all the same, right? Of course, the real reason for this is Marvel Studios' partnership with Acura, but a fanboy can dream! Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!
