On May 4th, 2012, The Avengers will finally assemble in cinemas. And who ever thought that we'd see this happen? We've known since Iron Man back in 2008 that this is what Marvel Studios had planned, but even so, who could possibly imagine seeing all these iconic characters together in one movie? Even now, I find it hard to picture Captain America, Iron Man and Thor all standing side-by-side in live action...not to mention the Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow!

Many have followed the progression of this movie solidly for the past few years. Our first glimpse of what The Avengers would look like came with the casting announcements of Chris Evans as Captain America and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Soon after, we had the announcement that Joss Whedon would direct, and all through this period, numerous rumours have continuosly circulated. From the slightly strange obsession a former CBM editor had with Kevin Pennington appearing in the movie (I'm pretty sure he was mentioned for at least six different characters at one point) to the speculation surrounding the inclusion of Ant-Man and the Wasp, as well as the shocking news that the team might face off against the Skrulls and Kree, it's been pretty non-stop.

It wasn't until the Avengers finally assembled on the stage of the 2010 San Diego Comic Con, that it all became real. Sure, we were disappointed that there was no Hank and Jan (especially when Firefly stars Nathan Fillion and Morena Baccarin were proclaimed as being the favourites) but there they were. Nick Fury. Captain America. Iron Man. Thor. Hawkeye. Black Widow. Agent Coulson. And to the horror of some, a brand new Bruce Banner in the form of Mark Ruffalo. Why the horror? Well, Ed Norton was well liked as the alter-ego of the Green Goliath, but c'mon...anyone who has heard Ruffalo speak about the role now knows he's a great replacement!

And now, filming has begun. We've heard nothing but good things and the recent reveal that Tom Hiddleston's Loki WILL in fact face off against the superhero team has only helped get everyone all the more excited. However, we still don't reallt know all that much. Captain America will have a new costume and Iron Man will be getting some upgraded armor. The Helicarrier will definitely be in the movie and we can expect there to be some tension between the heroes. And who better to handle all that than a director like Joss Whedon? The news that he had rewritten Zak Penn's script came as a relief to almost everyone, while he proved just how well he can handle a big scree ensemble cast in the brilliant, Serenity.

So, what now? It's to be expected that Marvel Studios' will be keeping everything under wraps, so it would be naive to think we'll be seeing any leaked images of the cast together in full costume anytime soon. When will we see that? I wouldn't be surprised if it's before July's Comic Con. By that point they'll probably even have some footage to show off! Will we know whether there's any truth to the rumor that they'll be facing off against the Skrulls and Kree? Maybe. I for one am hoping they're saving them for a sequel, but there's no doubt that this is an exciting time to be a comic book fan and I'm sure Marvel still have plenty of surprises up their sleeves. With Captain America: The First Avenger only a few months away, there's still plenty of time for speculation and excitement about what hints and clues that film will contain for The Avengers and regardless, I've got a feeling that the next 365 days are going to be one hell of a ride!

With an all star cast which includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Rufallo as Bruce Banner, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Tom Hiddleston as Loki, The Avengers will be in cinemas exactly one year from today!

But I already soiled myself thinking about it being only a year away, screw waiting until the line comes.

nuck82: You should suggest that to Big G, it is a great idea to use for any comic book movie.

Fine editorial Josh......I think it's a healthy thing to have a mix of anticipation and excitement and mystery. I cannot wait for the next year to unfold and images get leaked, then official ones come out, Marketing ramps up....... dare to dream of a teaser being ready for in front of Captain America............and that poster you used is a-mazing fanart. the real Marketing folks have their work cut out to top it.

the dark knight rises is nothing new our 7th batman film since 1989,i'm now officially bored of batman.

but there is still more batman to come with the reboot after nolans films.

I'm not THAT excited... I still think that the main problem with this flick are the villains. Too many powerfull heroes to fight against such inexpressive and shallow villains. Only Loki to save the rogue gallery, is too few.

But will be extra cool to see Downey Jr put the other guys on his pocket!

Alright, I'll be honest with you guys, risking to sound like a desperate movie geek in need of a life but :

I HAVEN'T BEEN THIS EXCITED SINCE 1997, when the Starwars OT was re-released at cinemas worlwide and when we knew we were two years away from seeing a new STARWARS episode on the big screens. I lived in Paris, quit my job to go see it in Houston TX, 6 months before the french release. It came out on may 16th 1999 in the U.S. and on october 25th in France...

Anyway back to AVENGERS : my point was that I'm actually even more excited to see it than I was in 1997, imagine that !

I remember fantasising for months about seeing Coruscant, Naboo and Tatooine... new spaceships, aliens and all and NOW I'm all about one shot :

Nick Fury having a debrief with Steve Rogers on the bridge of the HelliCarrier and later on seeing Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Hawk Eye, Black Widow and Fury in the same scene, you know what I mean, in the same frame, interracting, that what dreams are made of dudes ! I HAVE NEVER BEEN THAT EXCITED ABOUT A FILM, IT'S SICK, I'M A BIT OBSSESSIVE ABOUT IT !!!

Well, at least I was honest.

I need help, LOL ! 365 days, gosh... Anyone could let me borrow their Delorean please ?

@TheIntruder Thanks for the compliment dude ! just kidding ! I'm actually one of those outhere who happen to love EPISODE 1 ! love the scenes on Tatooine and Coruscant, and Darth "Ray Parks" Maul is badass... I dislike AOTC though and thought that Grevious (ROTS) was the worst Starwars character ever, yes you heard me, I think I'd even choose JarJar over Grevious !

Anyway, have no fear, if you have reasons to complain about Lucas' writting skills, Joss Whedon, on the other hand, is A brilliant screenwritter and knows how to create smart dialogues which resonate ! He knows how to create chemistry and banter between his characters, he will pull it off! I trust the guy !

I was more excited some time ago.

Im sure I would be much more excited if Edward Norton was still on board, and Black Widow and Captain America were played by much better choices.

But Im sure I will love this movie when I watch it on the threatre.

skullboy
skullboy - 5/4/2011, 4:39 PM
Not that much. Because...

1. No Hank Pym and Wasp
2. Hawkeye won't wear his trademark costume
3. Scarlett Johannson's reprising her role of Black Widow. One of the biggest miscasts in comic movies.
4. The might use the same junky cgi for the Hulk from his last movie.
5. Still think this movie is a long shot. People praise this while they moan and groan everytime they hear rumours about a Justice League movie being made. I wish they would stop making this a Marvel vs DC thing for cripe's sake.
