BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER Producer Offers Brief Tease Of What Fans Can Expect From The Show (Exclusive)

Talking to us about his work as Supervising Producer on the new Teen Titans Go! & DC Super Hero Girls movie, James Tucker offers a tease about what fans can expect from Matt Reeves' Batman: Caped Crusader.

Last year, we learned that the Dark Knight is getting his own HBO Max and Cartoon Network series in Batman: Caped Crusader. Utilising state-of-the-art animation, it isn't a sequel to Batman: The Animated Series, but is said to reinvent Batman and his iconic rogue’s gallery with sophisticated storytelling, nuanced characters, and intense action sequences all set in a visually striking world.

Most exciting for fans was the news Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and The Batman director Matt Reeves are all developing the show alongside James Tucker as co-executive producer. Tucker oversaw the previous era of DC Animated Universe movies (which received widespread critical acclaim) and most recently worked on Teen Titans Go! & DC Super Hero Girls: Mayhem in the Multiverse.

We'll bring you our full interview with James next week, but while we had him on the phone, we had to ask about Batman: Caped Crusader. He couldn't say much, but did share this when we asked if there's anything he could tease. "I don’t know...we’re still in the trenches trying to get it all together. It will be familiar yet very different. That’s all I can really say. That’s something to whet your appetite."

It's not a whole lot to go on, but we'll take it! Excitement for this series is huge given the talent involved, and we can't help but wonder if Tucker is suggesting the animation style will be a modern spin on what we saw in Batman: The Animated Series (the prevailing theory based on the poster).

With any luck, more from Batman: Caped Crusader will be revealed soon, and with the news earlier this year that comic book writer Ed Brubaker is also involved, it needs to get here already!

Teen Titans Go! & DC Super Hero Girls: Mayhem in the Multiverse is available on Digital, Blu-ray & DVD on May 24. The movie event also premieres on Cartoon Network on May 28 and starts streaming on HBO Max beginning June 28!

That's the most basic PR response I've ever heard.

Was wondering about this show, a lot about it had me intrigued, especially what Bruce Timm has said concerning it:

“My elevator pitch of this show is that it’s more Batman: The Animated Series than Batman: The Animated Series,”

“My ideas was to say, ‘OK it’s 1990 again, I get to do what I want this time, and I have J.J. and Matt backing me up.”

That and Ed Brubaker as the head of the writer's room?

(Still wish Paul Dini was involved as well tho tbh but I'm still hoping for the best).

Considering TAS was inspired by the look of the Burton films, it would be great if they did that here with the batman (and will probably happen with reeves involved)

I can’t help but have high hopes with references to BTAS being tossed around all the time. But in all honesty I should probably lower my expectations.

Wish HBOMAX just came out with MORE BTAS. There are still so many stories to be told, and that already established universe is so vast the potential is nearly unlimited.

Oh well, all I can do is wait and hope for the best

iunno how batman fans do it.

you get so many batman shows, games and movies each year. How do you remain excited for the same stuff over and over. I would feel bored and would like to get exposed to new characters.

I respect Suicide Squad and even Sony and MCU because they give me a variety of characters to be exposed to.
