The first trailer for Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham has been released, along with the gorgeous piece of artwork that will adorn the 4K and Blu-ray copies of the animated movie.

In that sneak peek, the supernatural comes to Gotham City for an action-packed adventure that promises to put a new spin on the Dark Knight and many of his closest allies and fiercest enemies. The trailer ends with quite a surprise too, so if you've never read the comic book that inspired this movie, you might want to hit the pause button around the 1:40 mark!

Like a lot of Elseworlds tales, this promises to be a fun ride. While Batman often takes centre stage in the DCAU movies, a refreshing take on the hero like this should be welcomed by fans.

Based on Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Richard Pace's 2000 Elseworlds story of the same name, the story is heavily inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos, with the title actually referencing his short story "The Doom That Came to Sarnath." While the likes of Superman and Wonder Woman won't appear, many grounded heroes and villains will.

In The Doom That Came to Gotham, explorer Bruce Wayne accidentally unleashes an ancient evil, and returns to Gotham after being away for two decades. Batman battles Lovecraftian supernatural forces and encounters allies and enemies such as Green Arrow, Ra’s al Ghul, Mr. Freeze, Killer Croc, Two-Face, and James Gordon.

In terms of the movie's cast, Jensen Ackles - who appears to be the Tomorrowverse's official Caped Crusader - won't be reprising his role as Batman. Instead, A Million Little Things star David Giuntoli will lend his voice to the Dark Knight.

Elsewhere, we can look forward to hearing Tati Gabrielle as Kai Li Cain, Christopher Gorham as Oliver Queen, John DiMaggio as James Gordon, Patrick Fabian as Harvey Dent, Brian George as Alfred, and Jason Marsden as Dick Grayson and Young Bruce Wayne.

Supporting cast members include Karan Brar as Sanjay "Jay" Tawde, David Dastmalchian as Grendon, Navid Negahban as Ra's al Ghul, Emily O'Brien as Talia al Ghul and Martha Wayne, Tim Russ as Lucius Fox, Matthew Waterson as Jason Blood/Etrigan, Jeffrey Combs as Kirk Langstrom, William Salyers as Cobblepot, Gideon Adlon as Oracle, and Darin De Paul as Thomas Wayne.

Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham is set to be released on March 28.

That's what I like to see. An original DC animated movie. Not that shared universe crap.

@dracula -

I do not agree, but I understand we all have our opinions, & I know many people like the animated stuff.

“An Awesome New Take On The Dark Knight“
Apparently you’ve never seen Batman Gotham By Gaslight, cause this looks more like a sequel to it than something new and fresh. 🤷‍♂️

@AnthonyVonGeek - I really did enjoy Batman Gotham By Gaslight, more of it bring it on!

@Matador - I agree, it was one of my favorite animated Batman movies.

@AnthonyVonGeek - its different

Comics are from the same writer and they seem to be going with something a bit closer to the gotham by gaslight suit but very different

@AnthonyVonGeek - Listen to @dracula, it's VERY different. This trailer is either purposely being obtuse in order to divert your attention away from it's true premise or it's blatantly dropped the ball in order to exploit the success of "Gotham by Gaslight". I'm hoping for the former, but at the moment it doesn't look good.

Just when you thought there wouldn't be something else batman related lol

@MyCoolYoung - well they have tone down their batman output lately

He will probably only cameo in legion of superheroes

Got the milestone movie coming

Ok, this is loosely related, but have any of you been messing around with AI? Like Midjourney? It's been said so much that it's cliché at this point, but artists really should worry. You can literally drag and any image into the server on Discord. In seconds it will spit out different detailed versions of your image. It will even change based on what other descriptors you give.

For Example:

Here is a picture I made using Photo Mode for the Spider-Man Remastered game

I dropped that image in and added the words, 'Futuristic ninja" and it spat out these images

I can take an image from this article

Write something like Batman fighting demons

And minutes later you have this

Now obviously it's not perfect, but the fact that it works so fast is astounding.

I can even add Batman fighting demons in the style of Alex Ross

And that's just the pics, you could type in basically anything. Any style. From photo real, to cartoon.

Sorry for the random rant but the art is what got me into comics. The stories kept me.

I love Bats but goddamn there are OTHER DC CHARACTERS who need an animated feature. Where’s my Hawkman/Hawkworld movie?

I've been looking forward to this one. Have to wait until I get home from work to watch the trailer, not watching a trailer on my phone.

I'm glad they got Jeffery Combs for this movie, it wouldn't be a proper Lovecraft movie without him.

So for those of you who are a bit confused between this and Gotham by Gaslight, "The Doom That Came to Gotham" was a series written by Mike Mignola, the creator of "Hellboy", depicting Batman in the Cthulhu Mythos. Taking inspirations from H.P. Lovecraft's works to depict Gotham's rogues gallery as horrors straight from the dreams of the Great Ones themselves.

Sadly... This is just not it. I hope the final product is better than the trailer, because at the moment this almost feels like a joke.
