Meh. There's no denying that Alex Ross paints beautifully, but his compositions are so damn static. Superhero art should be dynamic; his characters always look like they're posing for a photo. (Which is because they are.) I think Ross's best stuff was when he painted over Jim Lee's pencils, and I'm not even a big Jim Lee fan. Am I alone?

I like Alex work but he always use a black background which is boring. Alex is a classic painter, I don't think of him as a comic book artist. Any traditional painter could do this, I find digital painting more challenging. People like Marko Djurdjevic,Lucio Parrillo and DanLuVisiArt are some up and comers that do amazing work.

@FrozenDiamondz - we could still get it at one point. Have faith.

Batman: Harley Quinn came out November 1st, 2000...not 1999. And if Tango With Evil came out in 2003 how was it the cover for a book in 2000?

I might be one of the only people who doesn't like Ross's artwork.

Alex Ross really is the best comic book artist there is

@LEOSTRATOR

Agreed about Ross. He occasionally does some amazing work (Kingdom Come and Earth X have some stunning pages in them), but so much of his most widely distributed work is very basic, barely more than form and value studies.

He's unquestionably talented, but pieces like this are like seeing Michael Jordan do a lay up with no defenders. He's capable of doing something so much more powerful, but this "just gets the job done".

Sometimes Ross' static bulky heroes in true spandex work great. Superman has never looked better than when he's in an Alex Ross painting. But Ross' reliance on life models means he's probably never going to truly do Spider-Man justice.

So Alex Ross has another super power, time travel (art from 2003 shows up in 1999!)

those gif files are pretty cool, but why is the batman one moving in a circle. Its making me dizzy. Would be cool if it was just the rain and lightning effect.

@RonaldCasper Come on man, no one proofreads these articles, haha.

Alex Ross is amazing at what he does, but I don't think the Rockwellian Americana style fits all superheroes. It's certainly better suited to the Trinity than, say, the X-Men. His costumes would also look very stupid on live actors.

Haha, yes! Ross has powers

Honestly though, The painting was officially released in a book of artwork in 2003 and it debuted as a comic book cover in 1999

Apparently Affleck is playing Batman/Bruce Wayne like Hamlet. At the end of his run and possibly his life.
