Madonna Confirms Rumor That She Turned Down The Role Of Catwoman In BATMAN RETURNS

Pop megastar Madonna has now confirmed a long-standing rumor that she was offered the role of Selina Kyle/Catwomen in Tim Burton's Batman Returns, and says she regrets turning down the part.

It might be difficult to imagine anyone other than Michelle Pfeiffer bringing life to Catwoman in Batman Returns, but the Ant-Man and the Wasp actress wasn't actually Warner Bros. and director Tim Burton's first choice for the role, as none other than Madonna was originally offered the part.

This rumor has been doing the rounds for many years, but the pop megastar finally confirmed that, yes, she was indeed given the opportunity to suit-up as the Dark Knight's feline foe in the 1992 sequel - and regrets turning it down.

"I regret that I turned down Catwoman. That was pretty fierce,” Madonna told host Jimmy Fallon during her appearance on the Tonight Show, while revealing that she also passed up the lead in Showgirls and a role in The Matrix. “That’s like one of the best movies ever made,” she added. “A teeny tiny part of me regrets just that one moment in my life.”

The iconic performer didn't specify which part she was offered in The Matrix, but we assume it was the female lead, Trinity (Carrie-Ann Moss). Madonna has never appeared in a superhero movie, but she did have a memorable turn as Breathless Mahoney in 1990's Dick Tracy. She also played Verity in Die Another Day.

Do you guys think Madonna would have made a good Catwoman back in the day? Check out her interview in the player below, and drop us a comment in the usual place.

It must be alittle hard being surrounded my youth in the entertainment industry but you should find solace in the fact that you have been there done that. You had your time. Let the younger generation take over.

Instead she is trying to keep up🤦...

Everyone kinda deals with this to some degree. I'm 33 and the club days are almost coming to an end. I have a good maybe 5 years left before I start feeling weird in a sea of early 20 something's.

Bars will always be cool but theres a limit. Gotta know when to fall back and just remember the good old days.

Madonna is at embarrassing levels of try hard🤡

As Norm Macdonald might say, her reasons for turning the roles down were due to the studio's unwillingness to add in multiple scenes where her character would be involved in an orgy.

@Saga - Sounds more like a studio thing more than a Burton thing, but I can actually see it.

Looks like she got in character anyway and ended up doing her Catwoman in 1992's Erotica.

Did you guys ever see that movie “Death Becomes Her”? It’s that dark comedy, directed by Robert Zemeckis, with Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis. Streep and Hawn play women who drink from the fountain of youth, and it turns them immortal. But as they age, their bodies fall apart, and they have to glue themselves back together with super glue and housepaint. By the end of the movie they look like crusty old mannequins.

Madonna’s pretty much there.
