Warner Brothers recently released a press release for The Dark Knight Rises stating that some of the shooting will take place in Scotland. Sources tell the Daily Record that filming will take place in Glasgow, and that the city will be one of multiple cities that will act as Gotham City in the film.

Says the source to The Daily Record:

"He plans to use various cities to provide a mash-up of what Gotham will look like. Glasgow was location-scouted for the last film Dark Knight, though in the end it wasn't used. This time, Chris already has several scenes in mind. The city centre architecture is hugely impressive. But he will be filming in secret."

The Dark Knight Rises will be released on July 20, 2012

Great looking city. I can just imagine Bats at the top of that tower. I'm really hoping that they use another building for Wayne Enterprises because the building in TDK was god terrible.

I live in Glasgow and I was heading home from jury duty today and there was a guy standing next to me at the traffic lights with a film camera lol i doubt it was for TDKR but it would be cool if it was!

Glasgow? I guess it's a good way to save money when filming Gotham's slums! No fx required! Just grab the camera and go! No offense to Glasgow's residents.

Awesome news! Seeing as i'm a Glaswegian. Hope I manage to scout out one.

@ Future: It's called both Chelsea Smile or Glasgow Smile/Grin. We also have a Glasgow Kiss which is to header someone between the eyes lol.

@Ron : You've obviously never been to Glasgow. It's a fantastic city and has a much better atmosphere and nightlife than Edinburgh and most of the UK. I'm sure Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely would agree seeing as they do all there work here. Which cities don't have a scummy area? We can't all be from ohio :p

@ Ninja - the comment was just a little dig at the stereotyping of Scotland. No, not been to Glasgow, I'm sure it is a great place! My sister loves Scotland and keeps going on about how good a country it is. I grew up about 20 miles from Nottingham in a town called Newark, now THAT is a scummy area!

Glasgow is very Gotham-like and there is some great architecture and rough old areas that could easily double for The Narrows or a tough hood. The funny thing is that picture above is in a plush West End area called Park Circus, that tall building would be great for a rooftop battle between Batman & Bane!! Could just see a good scrap beneath the Kingston Bridge or the Tumbler roaring down Sauchiehall Street! Ya dancer!!!
