Has The Ending For THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Been Revealed By DC Comics?

The ending to The Dark Knight Rises is probably the most debated scene amongst fans for any comic book movie this year. But has former President of DC Comics Paul Levitz let the ending slip? Potential MAJOR spoilers ahead...

It's common knowledge now that Selina Kyle will replace the deceased Rachel Dawes as Bruce Wayne's love interest for Christopher Nolan's final installment in the Dark Knight Trilogy. A question that hasn't really been debated yet is this: Will Bruce finally settle down and have kids?

A big-name interview over at Newsarama has hinted at a yes.

Former President of DC Comics Paul Levitz went some way to accidentally confirming that Batman and Catwoman's child would return this year. It's now confirmed for May's upcoming addition to the New 52 line up, World's Finest. Hang on, what do they mean by return?

The series will help reintroduce the concept of the parallel world of Earth-2, the original home to DC's pre-Second World War characters and their descendants. Levitz will substitute the traditional world's finest pairing of Superman and Batman with Clark Kent's Kryptonian cousin Power Girl, also known as Kara Zor-L, and Huntress, Helena Bertenelli.

Levitz surprised readers by admitting to Newsarama that, following last year's Flashpoint and the changes since New 52 began, Bertenelli would revert to her former pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths moniker of Helena Wayne - the daughter of Earth-2's Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle. After a large number of years of the character going by a different name, it seems more than a coincidence that she would take back her original Wayne name just before the relase of the new Batman movie.

It's not that hard to picture the ending of TDKR to be in a Batman Beyond-esque setting, with an aged Bruce and Selina calling a little girl from the garden of Wayne Manor. Or is it just me?

@teabag- Oh great, my owning failed -_-

@denomhunter15- Basically, the ending could be Bruce and Selina getting married and giving birth to Huntress.

I doubt thats the ending considering the comics and movies rarely play off each other. Granted the Spider-man comics debated web shooters versus organic when the Raimi movies came out and Blade got the matrix redesign due to the movie as well but I highly doubt that it ends with Bruce and Selina having a girl....unless thats Juno Temples character which would then add a whole new layer of awesomeness to Nolan

Revisiting abandoned storylines to tie-in with movie releases isn't something unheard of in comics. Spider-Man's black costume turned up in time for its cinematic premiere in Spider-Man 3, although drastically changed for the big screen. New 52's Action Comics has taken Superman back to his 1930s roots, perhaps in part to prepare audiences for the Nolan-produced Man Of Steel, due in 2013.

That would be pretty awesome, although Bruce and Selina would be pretty old by then. You know what this means.......

This is from an old DC story about Earth-2. The Huntres was Bruce and Selina's daughter. The version f the huntress brings that origin back. Her and Power Girl are both from Earth-2 and are tapped in new 52 Earth. Nothing to do with the movie.

@BarnaclePete- You're probably right, but the reason people are speculating this is because they'd suddenly decide to revert Huntress's identity back to Helena Wayne, daughter of Bruce and Selina, just before a Batman movie where Selina is the love interest.

I think we have more of a chance of seeing Bruce hook-up with Miranda Tate (Talia Al Ghul?) rather than Selina.

HOWEVER, I do see Selina saving Batman's ass in the end, right before (or after) he gets his back broken

I took this;

to London comic-con and he signed it on the bottom; "Dave Prowse is Darth Vader" - "The Force is strong with you!"

The guy is a legend and I'm a very happy bear. ^^

I don't know how anyone can say that it's common knowledge that Selina Kyle will replace Rachel Dawes as Bruce Wayne's love interest in TDKR. It could hardly even be considered a reasonable guess based on what we know thus far about Selina Kyle's role in this movie. But since we are on the subject of trying to figure out just how she might figure into this whole story, here's my stab at it...

"Their murder shocked the wealthy and the powerful into action." -Alfred

"People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy." -Bruce Wayne

This short Dialog between Alfred in Bruce in Batman Begins seems like it could be further explored in TDKR. I believe that Selina Kyle/Catwomen is adding a different perspective to the story. The perspective of the lower and middle class citizens of Gotham. Selina thinks that the rich and powerful are the real source of Gotham's problems. She believes that the Rich have everything and choose not to help Gotham out of sheer greed.

Where as Bruce's take on the situation leans more toward the idea that the Rich need to be inspired somehow. That deep down, they are capable of doing the right thing. Bruce has faith that Gotham can save itself the right way, but Selina is not so optomistic. Selina believes that there is a true divide in Gotham between the wealthy and the poor and the poor are paying the biggest price in restoring Gothams order.

Like Joe Chill, the criminals who are being arrested are poor and desperate. She believes that a revolution is necessary to turn things around for the better in Gotham. This is also where Bane comes into play. He turns the poor against the rich and creates a civil war in Gotham. The criminals start taking down the rich. But Bane's true motive is taking down Gotham altogther, and does this by turning it's citizens against eachother. Once gotham is at it's weakest, he completely takes over and is revealed to be in cohorts with the League of Shadows along with Maranda Tate aka Talia Al Ghul.

Selina eventually realizes this and teams up with Batman and the rest of Gotham to take back their city in some grand finale.

This is nothing more than me trying to tie together some elements of the story in logical way. This version if correct also allows Catwomen to do what she does best, playing for both sides.

@SlimyJo- He signed that for me too! :D

@LoudNoises- Yes, I agree with you. Selina will most likely be attracted to Batman and after Bruce reveals himself she changes opinions and helps him in the final battle, etc.

Wow.... this is really outlandish!!! DC is also reprinting the Son of the Demon/Bride of the Demon in the next few months, and the Bane story arcs... but i think those are just to get people who aren't familar with Bane/Talia up to speed.
This Huntress theory is garbage... they are only releasing this Earth 2 crap to fill in one of the cancelled titles and this will follow suite soon anyway...
