Last week's early tracking projections indicated that Joker could make as much as $90 million domestically when it hits theaters next month, but the updated box office forecasts suggest a slightly lower opening.

Right now, Todd Philips' controversial origin story for the iconic DC villain is pacing for a domestic debut of between $82 million and $87M over the Oct. 4-6 weekend. This would still give the R-rated release the opening weekend record for the month of October, beating Sony Pictures' Venom ($80.2M).

In related news, Rotten Tomatoes has debuted another couple of officially commissioned posters for the film, featuring Joaquin Phoenix's deranged Arthur Fleck melting into his Clown Prince of Crime Persona.
