JOKER Press Release Reveals More Casting Additions; GOTG Star Bradley Cooper Listed As Producer

Joker has been shooting for a few days now but following the release of that first official look at Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, we have a full cast and crew list which includes some big surprises...

Warner Bros. has announced that principal photography has begun on Joker in a movie the studio describes as revolving around "the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. [Todd] Phillips' exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale."

In terms of the cast, a full list has now been revealed and that includes Robert DeNiro (Taxi Driver), Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Bill Camp (Red Sparrow), Frances Conroy (Castle Rock), Brett Cullen (Narcos), Glenn Fleshler (Billions), Douglas Hodge (Penny Dreadful), Marc Maron (GLOW), Josh Pais (Motherless Brooklyn), and Shea Whigham (Kong: Skull Island). Needless to say, that's quite an ensemble.

Behind the scenes, Joker is being produced by Phillips and Bradley Cooper under their Joint Effort banner, and longtime Martin Scorsese producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff. It is executive produced by Richard Baratta, Joseph Garner and Bruce Berman. Phillips is joined by director of photography Lawrence Sher (The Hangover), production designer Mark Friedberg (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), editor Jeff Groth (The Hangover), and Oscar-winning costume designer Mark Bridges (The Artist).

Interestingly, the only mention of DC in the press release is a throwaway mention that the screenplay is "based on characters from DC." Are you excited for Joker? Share your thoughts with us down below.

Always love seeing Shea Whigham pop up in stuff.

@MUTO123 - He is incredibly underrated as a character actor. He just has a certain presence about him where he looks like he's a tough guy who can carry himself in any situation but comes across as an average blue-collar dude.

I first noticed him in AGENT CARTER: SEASON 1 and the more I saw him in stuff like KONG: SKULL ISLAND, DEATH NOTE, and FARGO: SEASON 3, the more I started to love this actor and the performances he gave in those flicks.

Sounds interesting, great cast, fascinating premise, Philips wants to compete with his other in house WB pal Cooper in the drama genre, Coopers version of A Star is Born is very good, It's seems cinephiles are curious and interested in Joker, Marvel fans are not. I'm interested.

@ARMUS - Now now, let's not categorize fans so blatantly. Pretentious much?

@Whaley87 - it tends to be the way the cookie crumbles, read comments, Publisher: are you interested in this joker film? ..Bob: Sure, why not. SpiderMan 1994: Trash. FilmDude : fan of Pheonix, I'm interested. Marvefan: NO!!! 😂 I do get its too much of a wide remark, but it seems like that's how it is, it's the same in reverse also. Fans think Marvel and DC are MLB teams.

@ARMUS -
That's painting Marvel fans with pretty broad strokes. I my definitely a Marvel fan. But I'm also a huge DC fan. Recently the DC movies that have come out have been not so great in my opinion. But that does not mean I don't want them to get thier act together and be successful.

@Imfunnyhow - They are pretty broad strokes, agree, but I'm basing it on what I've seen, know 100 % there's Marvel fans excited about it, but most of the negativity I've seen has been from Marvel fans. agree also about the DC films not being good recently, not sure they'll get their act together, based on the last few years it's doubtful, but this flick looks promising, probably because it doesn't really seem like a comic book film

I’m excited. Feels like a film that isn’t about building a ‘cinematic universe’ and more about making a good [frick]ing movie, good on them. Bring on more elseworlds DC stories. Live Action Gotham by Gaslight next please.

Yeah, because only someone living in a cave on Mars for the last 80 years would need any more information than that.

🤔

Bradley Cooper produced American Sniper, War Dogs, A Star is Born. Prettty good start.

Expect it to continue with ‘Joker’.

Now all we need is a surprise cameo to add to this already fantastic cast of this film which is the most Interesting, Daring and anticipated CBM in years.

More movies should be done like this, fast and on a budget; it's how it was done in old Hollywood. (But I think a good low budget Batman detective story would have hit the spot better).

Wow got some great character actors to fill out the cast, especially Bill Camp. If you want to see 2 minutes of some of the finest acting out there watch his scene in Birdman.

Not excited for this, but I just hope no person (e.g. white supremacist reddit incel fueled by mysogyny/racism/homophobia/xenophobia) to try to use whatever this movie’s message is to justify a violent physical attack like gunning or crashing against people. That description alone... yikes. I hope the movie puts its feet down and condemns whatever atrocities the Joker pulls instead of leaving it to “moral ambiguity”.
