Joseph Gordon-Levitt On Why He Won't Be In BATMAN/SUPERMAN; Supports Ben Affleck

Following the release of The Dark Knight Rises, speculation was running rampant that it would be Joseph Gordon Levitt's 'John "Robin" Blake' who would take up the mantle of the Bat in future Batman movies. He now comments on that and shows his support for Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader.

Appearing on the Late Show with David Letterman last night, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was asked by the host why exactly he won't be returning as Batman in Zack Snyder's untitled Man of Steel follow-up which will feature a team-up - or perhaps even a fight - between The Dark Knight and Superman. "Well, I think these new movies aren’t necessarily...I don’t know first of all. I haven’t read any of the new movies. I’m not involved in them at all. But I don’t know if they are so much a continuation of the Christopher Nolan Batman. I don’t think they’re really very connected. At least, I don’t...I actually don’t know," he explained before going on to express why he thought it was the right decision to have his character take up the mantle in the closing minutes of The Dark Knight Rises As for how he feels about "Batfleck", Levitt added: "I think he’s going to be really good." Check out the interview below and sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

i would hope there's an implied continuity... even like a single line to make a nod to the nolan trilogy, like if superman were to ask batman why he's not in gotham he'd say something like "i left it in capable hands" or something
YOU KNOW??? YOU GUYS UNDERSTAND

While I don't think Joseph Gordon-Leavitt should be Batman, he should have become Nightwing. Then you would have had Batman (Christian Bale), Superman (Henry Cavill), Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) and Nightwing already established in the DC universe.

Oh..but that makes too much sense...let's reboot the whole thing, cast an actor who has already failed at being a super hero and no one wants, anger half you fan base, and start your shared universe with only one hero (Superman) following a movie critics did not like. That's the way to go!

"Why 'John Blake' Won't Be In BATMAN/SUPERMAN"

"Because it was a retarded idea to have me be some kind of Robin anyways."

@Sugardood

that nod won't work the way you think. An early 40's Batman means that most likely the new series will have a Dick Grayson present. So when Batman says I left it in capable hands, it means, Robin's got it under control until I get back.

also, just let that series die. if this incarnation sucks, just let it be a stand alone bag of suck. don't connect it and tarnish the trilogy more than TDKR already did.

@TheFirstAvenger - it's called damage control. They are trying to change/control/protect the public perception of the film before it gets worse. There was a lot of negativity going around when Affleck was first selected (why else do you think they kept it a secret for so long?). In order to get public support they are getting a lot of well known celebrities to endorse the choice.

It doesn't really make since for the Nolan's batman to be in the "Batman/Superman" movie:

1. Can you really imagine Nolan's Batman beating Superman

2. He wasn't really the world's greatest detective like he was in the comics or had any had advance gadgets like he did in the comics in those movies.

3. Christian Bale when he was in "dark knight rises" quit being Batman to be with Selena Kyle, led the duties of Batman to John "Robin" Blake and who wants to see John Blake be Batman I want to see Bruce Wayne be Batman.

(Also even though I love the dark knight trilogy I'm tired of that gruff voice Christian Bale made, like at least get a voice changer if it's that difficult to sound like Batman)
