So last night the trailer finally dropped. Needless to say, personally, I was not disappointed. This offered a great feel of what to expect going in, and felt like a great synposis trailer. Hit the video below to check out my reaction, and BREAKDOWN! (around 3 minutes in) Thats the face of pure joy!

* I would like to add that I am in the camp that this trailer did not show **too much. Other than Doomsday, this trailer was exactly the splot synopsis that WB gave us. Many people are complaining that we get to see Doomsday. A character who has been brought up in the rumor mill nearly every week since the movie was announced. It was all but confirmed and everyone saw it coming. We get 2-3 very quick shots and that was all. I've read the script, and this trailer spoils NOTHING. I normally dont believe the scripts I find online, but this was really more of a detailed story outline. I read it before this, and the comic-con trailer was ever released. The things described have been extremely accurate to a tee, and I can not wait to see this movie!

I can't wait to see Lex evolve in the DCEU. I loved the dialogue we heard too, you can tell that Terrio had a hand in the script

The first scene with Lex was the only cringeworthy scene, but I think that probably had to do mostly with the fact that Lex was faking excitement. Remember "he's one thing to the world and another to himself." The other scenes were much better.

Doomsday... I think they could have mostly kept the same look and made him Bizarro instead (so no spikes, and perhaps a little smaller). I'd have been fine with that. They definitely should not have spoiled him, though.

@DrKinsolving Well, Im happy for you but I will never understand you haha. The fanboy inside me just wants to cry as I'll probably never see the great character that I want in the big screen

@BruceWillis

Haha, to each his own,

It's all there though man, the characterization, everything, and this is just the beginning, this is the introduction to Lex.... it's pretty much his origin story, in a big way, by that promo pic alone, we know that there is more to come....

I love character progression in movies, and watching characters evolve, etc, so I'm all for this, and Lex is a character that needs to evolve in order for him to make sense on screen and in order for his obsession with Superman to really shine through, you need to see what Lex was like before Superman and then.... what Lex is like after Superman, to really understand his character. You need to see how losing affects Lex as a person, especially how losing to Superman affects him. If Lex was already fully evolved there would be a lot of questions regarding his motivations, etc.... But, after this movie, his motivations will be clear

I feel like for you, and I might be wrong, but I feel like you just don't really like Jesse as an actor. I'm a big fan of him, so I think that's the big difference in our opinions

But, yeah, to each his own, amazing trailer, I'm really looking forward to next year

I like Jesse, I saw the Double last week and thought he was great. However, that was not the way I want Luthor to be, and the trailer was even worse than I expected. I also love Snyder and DC comics (I blame Goyer for the mistakes of MoS) so I am not a Marvel fanboy/ DC hater.

I agree about everything on your second paragraph. You also made an awesome article about Lex. And I agree that Terrio will probably nail the way Lex feels and thinks about Superman. But we disagree on how he should express those feelings. I understand that you liked that first scene of him in the trailer, but I feel that you just cant deny that that was not the classic Luthor. Do you deny that? I mean classic Luthor is older, bigger, he has a deep voice, he is cold and calculating. Classic Luthor is more like Walter White. This guy was just weird and eccentric. I understand they want to show two sides of him, but this is something new. He will probably have the basic characteristics of Lex but you have to admit that this is just Snyder's version. It was the same with Whedon's version of Ultron, I liked him and he had the basic characteristics but I admit that he was not classic Ultron. This is wrong because these are characters we love and we fans want to see the characters we know.

So, to sum up, it is ok if you like Snyders version, and I am sincerily happy for you. Luthor will probably have his basic characteristics, but come on, objectivley speaking, you just have to admit:

A) Eisemberg's Lex is not THE classic Lex (otherwise there wouldnt be so many people like me bitching about it).

B) Doomsday looked like the live-action Goomba (or at least that he didnt look too badass)

@BruceWillis

Haha, right on.

But we disagree about, Ultron, regarding the comics, because for me, one of the main things I loved about Ultron from the comics was the Hank Pym/Ultron/Janet dynamic. Ultron is also more like a child/baby at first too, something the movie completely missed out on.... So, I don't feel like Ultron's personality was really the same in the movie. Ultron in the movie was more Stark Ultron, not Pym Ultron like in the comics. There were definitely some similarities though, but some major differences in personality and characterization as well

And, yeah, I agree, definitely not the "Classic Lex" but I'm all for that.... In today's society, "Classic Old School Cigar Smoking Lex" wouldn't get very far, he would be laughed and made a mockery of, similar to Donald Trump. "Classic Lex" could work on screen but not in the modern world that the DCEU is portraying.

It's a different world today, and the movie is reflecting that.... That's why the movie references Lex's father as more of a "Classic Lex". The business world doesn't operate like it used too, you know.

Plus, we've seen the "Classic Lex" take already in so many other movies that it's kind of played out, imo.... even recent ones, Obadiah Stane, Killian, Darren Cross, their all similar to "Classic Lex", but Jesse brings something new and fresh to that characterization

How I see it, is that their not just showing the 2 sides of Lex, which is a major part of his character, but their also showing Lex before Superman, and then Lex after.... this is technically Lex's origin story

Lex before....

Lex after....

And, I thought "Doomsday" (Baby Doomsday) was awesome, haha

I think he will definitely evolve in the movie too, into more of the Doomsday we know from the comics.... Similar to how his battles play out in the comics

@DrKinsolving

Well, I think we can agree on a lot of things here.

First, you totally misunderstood me about Ultron. Sorry for my bad english haha. I agree with everything you said, Whedon really changed the character (like Snyder did with Lex) and even though I liked him, it was not right. Again, tha basics were there but in the end this was just Whedon's version of the character.

So, we only disagree because I think that "Classic Old School Cigar Smoking Lex" would have totally worked.

"He would be laughed and made a mockery of"
That is exactly what is happening with Eisemberg!

"Like Donald Trump"
Trump is dumb and naive, Lex should be the exact opposite.

"We've seen the "Classic Lex" take already in so many other movies: Obadiah Stane, Killian, Darren Cross"
But these were not serious takes because Marvel. Snyder had set up a really serious tone with MoS and it would have been perfect to see a really deep and serious Obadiah Stane (with everything that makes Lex special).

I agree though that that black and white promo image does look promising and the evoulution of Lex's feelings towards Superman will probably be great. So I guess that we can both be happy for that (I do trust Chris Terrio).

PS: Doomsday's design is bad. haha

Haha, cool. Right on about Ultron.

And, agree to disagree about how a modern society would interpret an "Old School Lex".... and I think the "Doomsday" design rocks, I also feel like he will definitely evolve, and I can't wait to see him in action.

Right on though man, overall, I'm excited, really looking forward to the movie
