THE BATMAN II: Jeffrey Wright STILL Hasn't Seen A Script Ahead Of Movie's Planned October 2025 Release

While The Batman II is scheduled to be released in theaters next October, the latest script update from star Jeffrey Wright has left fans wondering whether the sequel could slip into 2026. Check it out!

As of now, the plan is for Superman: Legacy and The Batman II to both arrive in theaters next year. However, while the Man of Tomorrow is on track to make his DCU debut in 2025, we're not currently sure whether this "Elseworlds" Caped Crusader will make his return as soon as we'd hoped.

The WGA strike seems to have significantly slowed work down on the movie and, talking to Variety, Jim Gordon actor Jeffrey Wright confirmed he's still waiting on a script.

"Here’s the beginning, middle, and end laid out for you," he joked when asked for an update. "I have not read the script. I have not received the script. I’m waiting patiently. But I’ll tell you what? As soon as I get it, I’ll call you. I’ll send a copy right over to you. On the off chance that Matt Reeves hears this, the hairs on the back of his neck are going to stand up."

That's a little disheartening and the clock is definitely ticking when it comes to the sequel beginning production and being finished in time for that planned October 2025 release.

Getting serious about the secrecy surrounding a movie like The Batman II, the actor added, "Man, that thing is on lockdown. I think I had a paper version of the script for the first one, but they wanted to hold on to it after we were finished [shooting]. We would get these ‘Mission Impossible’ self-destructing files sent to us. It’s hardcore. It’s like five-step authentication."

Wright shared similar sentiments last month when he explained, "You've seen as much of a script as I have at this point. I don't want to jump ahead. I just want to go forward with it."

"Clearly, I'm Lieutenant Gordon at the end of the film, the first film, so we may be moving up in the ranks, I suppose, but I haven't seen anything yet," Wright added. "I'm being patient, letting [director] Matt Reeves do his thing - which is going to be magical and wonderful - and looking forward to diving back into it when the time comes."

Despite some pretty wild speculation online that DC Studios might sideline The Batman sequel in order to keep the focus on The Brave and the Bold, we're pretty sure the "Elseworlds" movie is still on the way, particularly with The Penguin coming to Max later this year.

Then again, it's easy to see why many fans are concerned when Reeves' Arkham-set TV show has gone from being a Bat-Verse project to one which takes place in the DCU. In an ideal world, James Gunn and Peter Safran would make Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight part of their reboot, but we're not banking on it.

The Batman II is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on October 3, 2025.

Wasn't a big fan of the first one. Wasn't bad, just a bland 'been-there-done-that' take.

I will be watching the Penguin show out of curiosity. If I can't make it all the way through the show, then I'm out for Bats II.

@lazlodaytona - Agreed.

It's my least favorite Batman movie outside of 'Batman and Robin'.

@lazlodaytona - Yes, exactly!

I’m not a Nolan die hard. I think his best was Begins. The Batman felt like a retread of Nolan’s work. All of it felt like a cover song for TDK and Seven. So, while technically not bad; felt boring and has-been.

Riddler made a really bad impersonation of Joker feeding fear through the news. Compare Ledger’s “Look At Me!” scene to Riddler’s hamster tube torture device. Ledger’s performance left the theater silent every time I saw it. Riddler’s made people laugh; especially his falsetto “goodbye!” at the end.

I’m also just not a fan of hyper realistic Batman. If your Batverse CAN’T have Mr Freeze or Robin; you’re not making Batman.

@lazlodaytona - Man I said this and got tarred and feathered. I guess as time goes by people kinda soured on it. I still like the cinematography and Colin Ferrell, but the movie overall was bland AF.

@lazlodaytona @MG0019 - I liked The Batman a lot as a detective movie, but not necessarily as a Batman movie. Like you say, it did feel like a retread of other things.

The Beuce Wayne in this felt new though, and about time he got some detecting done. I'll watch a reclusive Bruce Wayne detective movie for sure.

@MG0019 - Batman Begins is the best live-action bats film ever (yes, even better than DK). His origin flashbacks placed sporadically throughout the first act made the origin not drawn out and boring. When Batman 1st appeared to take down Falcone's goons, it was dang near horror movie stuff because the bat was scarry as hell. He soared from roof top to rooftop, not just with his grappling gun and gliding, but the freakin tumbler too. Then when Bats goes after Scarecrow the 2nd time, what SC sees is terrifying

He also was a detective and his party-boy Bruce Wayne persona was awesome. The film deserves more recognition.

(sorry, you got me going....)

So?.

It’s gonna be March in a few days and I don’t think they start shooting until August so he’s got time to see it , not a big deal right now.

Anyway I liked his performance & version of Gordon aswell as enjoyed the emphasis on his partnership with Batman also…

He was the “Watson” to the latter’s “Holmes”.

@TheVisionary25 - yeah especially when Marvel release their scripts like a month before filming starts. I’d be worried if he did receive a script so soon to be honest.

The first film was probably the most boring reboot I've ever seen. Not garbage just stale, the tone is the only thing that interested me about it but there was no other draw, no excitement to see what they come up with next. Couldn't give a shit if it doesn't get a sequel.

I really liked The Batman, but it always felt like there could be more to it (if they just took the step toward the fantastical Batman baddies it could be something special). He’s never going to top the grounded take of Nolan, so why not take this new tone and go all in to make it more unique?
Canon108
Canon108 - 2/27/2024, 4:03 PM
The first one was awesome, it actually showed him as a detective which the Nolan movies ignored. Better script, better acting, and it was executed better, it's insane this doesn't get more love given some glaring issues with TDK. Can't wait for The Batman Part II.
