The Dark Knight has made a phenomenal $533.1 million domestically and $468 million overseas. It's the only movie in the Top 20 of the all time worldwide chart where the domestic gross exceeds the foreign gross, which is a common trait among comic book-based pictures. On the all time domestic chart, The Dark Knight ranks second to Titanic, while it stands at No. 22 on the all time foreign chart. Warner Bros. noted that The Dark Knight's total includes the highest-grossing two-dimensional re-mastered IMAX release ever at $49.6 million domestic and $15.3 million overseas.

No, it didn't and won't beat Titanic. GOD I hate that movie. I can't believe it made that much money.

On another note, if all movies had equal ticket prices equivalent to what was paid on average per ticket for TDK, TDK would be 27th in line of all-time grossing films in the US, with Titanic at #6 with "Gone With the Wind", "Star Wars Ep. IV", "The Sound of Music", "ET" and "The Ten Commandments" rounding out the top 5.

Ion they consider that in deciding which is the highest money making. They take into acount inflation and other things.
IonParallax

No, they don't. Most lists produced represent the actual dollar amount of the year, or era, the were released, NOT today's dollar. Like I said, TDK is 27th in the US and Internationally it would be something like 30th. Titanic is still in the top 10 and NO matter how good TDK is compared to any of the rest of those films, it will NEVER become one in the true top 5.

That Top 5 accounting for inflation and what-not. Titanic is a complete waste of time to go see as if you know any kind of history, you would know exactly what happened to it and in the end, IT SINKS! Every single time, no matter what movie you watch, or story you read, IT SINKS! Yea, it finally docks in Ghostbusters II, but, IT STILL SANK! Stupid movie. I can't believe it EVER made as much money as it did. BULL!!!!

Oh well, you can't always get what you want, and that's the way the cookie crumbles, so oh well. TDK is still much more awesome than that movie will ever be, so even if it didn't make more money technically, it is still, by far a much much much much much much much MUCH better film.

@ Ionparallax

Titanic was RE-RELEASED THREE times within the year and the enxt year after the oscars....so regardless of The dark knight winning. It wouldnt Beat titanic because when it was RE-RELEASED they didnt promote TDK trailers for a re-release to the IMAX trailers.

Titanic did alot of Marketing, and that why people went to see it 2-3 times after they had already seen it once.

I agree with when you say "TDK would be 27th in line of all-time grossing films in the US"...but tickets then WERE CHEAPER compared to tickets now...so regardless you wouldnt be able to measure that anyways. 1996 it was what 6.50 a movie? Now its 12 dollars?

If you want to look at it in that angle, the yeah of course the TDK would be 27th from the top....but since the system isnt SET that way....ON IMDB and every other site I go to....

All-Time USA Box office: The Dark Knight (2008) $533,062,050 is at the number 2nd spot.

All-Time Non-USA Box office: The Dark Knight (2008) $464,000,000 is at the number 21st spot.

All-Time Worldwide Box office: The Dark Knight (2008) $997,062,050 is at the number 4th spot.

Its funny because if you add those spots up it equals 27th spot lol 2+4+21=27 just a coincidence lol

...but the dark knight being at number 4 worlwide is big deal specially for a comic book movie, titanic made nearly 2 billion because of its marketing...and its 3-4 times re-releases within the world. I hate that movie too...I cant see why people would watch that movie over and over? But whatever...I liked what you said and my reply is long as hell. [sorry about making you read all that]

No movie wll ever beat titanic its just how it is. it was a different time and as much as we all hate it its never going to be beat.
on a totally different note was just rewatching the batman cartoons from the early 90's and noticed something nolan totally lifted the plot of batman begins from and eposide named dreams in darkness. The scarecrow is putting fear toxin into the water supply and has batman commited to the asylum after being ht with the gas. good eposide by the way. why cant they make more bat toons like that series anymore

Who really gives a crap? It made a crap load of money, so that means more goodness to come. We win. So a bunch of women and old people went to see Titanic a bazillion times, big deal. I'm sure the video and DVD sales were a helluva lot too! I don't really care how much money it makes as long as it's enough for them to make another one. Here's hoping that the 3rd one is just as super bad ass as TDK!! Another thing you have to look at is how many people pirated it from the internet. That in addition is stealing money from the TDK because those people aren't paying the outrageous price to watch it. Back in the mid 90's, you didn't see pirating until it was on video.

I will be...I just poseted what deal WB is giving Nolan...so Nolan WILL be returning..and I know for a FACT Bale is as well. Unless they add robin....BALE SAID "ADD ROBIN, then NO BALE"....so totallt happy on that issue.

You know I agree with what yall said....but you know if this movie came out when TICKETS were cheaper...more people would be less conservative and actually go out and watch Batman...But we are in a recession and not alot of people went to watch TDK...it was mostly people like me and you...or the other fans....people who loved the SCRIPT, ART, and beauty of this flick.

I watched it twice...I wanted to watch it at the IMAX when they re-released it...but didnt have the chance to.

But i'm totally happy that it made alot off money :)
