Will THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Be Over 3 Hours Long?

Roger Nail, the president of a visual effects company, MediaWorks, tweeted and then later deleted a few interesting messages that imply that his wife was going and saw the most current cut of The Dark Knight Rises.

President of MediaWorks, Roger Nail, yesterday tweeted that his wife, Francie Brown, was headed off to see a big summer movie. Based on the clue of "The Dark one" most of us assume he meant The Dark Knight Rises.

Would you like another reason why we believe it's for the new Batman movie? I'm glad you asked. See, his wife Francie Brown is a dialect coach. She has worked with Christian Bale on eight films and her husband even tweeted in August that she was working with Marion Cotillard in Pittsburgh. In the past Francie has also been quoted as saying that part of her job is going over the final cut of a film. The quote below is from 2007, and is about her working with Christian Bale on 3:10 to Yuma.

"I very often will review the finished cut and look for places where there are slips, so that he can ADR [automated dialogue replacement] those slips, which are rare with him." - L.A. Times

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th 2012 and stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.

Well wouldn't surprise me, most movies are long in length and then get cut down.

I really really doubt it. But I honestly wouldn't mind. Just gotta make sure I train my bladder up and not watch those previews with the Coca Cola being poured in to the glass.

Creepy ass gif. As for the length, due to IMAX limitations, I could see it being 170 minutes. I'm still saying it'll be at least 166 minutes.

It will be cut some.

I expect it to be around the same length as TDK, but perhaps a bit longer.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, thats way too long, one of the faults of the dark knight was its length, so they decide to make this one longer, makes sense

The Dark Knight never felt too long and if this movie can entertain like the last one did, then the longer, the better!

Who knows, maybe Nolan cant screen his final cut, because of its length, so we will get his first director's cut on Blu ray :P
JDUKE25
JDUKE25 - 5/24/2012, 10:43 PM
@antonio I guess so lol But, Batman Begins was 141. The Dark Knight was 153. So TDKR could be 160 or so, who knows.

I don't think that it'll be worth the ticket money, no matter the length. I'll wait for Redbox, or something......if it'll even be worth THAT much money.

I personally wouldnt mind it being over 3 hours long because 1: i've seen longer films and 2: i want the film to never end, but i dont believe the mainstream viewers will stick around long enough, mentally, for the film, which will completely ruin it for them.

Having said that, i'd be more than fine with a 2 and a half hour running time

Long movies are bad for box office because you can't show it as many times during the day. If you lose 1-3 showings per theater per day that's a lot of revenue lost... I suspect it will be cut to under 2:30 hrs... But who knows...
TheMyth
TheMyth - 5/24/2012, 10:50 PM
BRING IT!!! I think a movie should be at least 2 hours or I was robbed. I fully expected this to be at least 2hrs 30mins just to flesh out all these new characters and explain everything.

I LLLOOOVE Nolan's Batman movies...but they do run a bit long, particularly TDK. I guarantee they saw the rough cut...they're in the editing phase right now. They'll cut it down a bit...they always do.

Man, that animated GIF makes me appreciate so much that they built and used a physical BAT, aka BATWING, on set.

@eoin3 true, but look at Titanic. It was over 3hrs and that movie was in theaters forever. And TDKR will be towards the end of the summer movies, so there's not going to be much else coming out to challenge it after it comes out.

My ass and attention span won't last, guess unless I catch a screening I'll be waiting for it to pop up online or blu-ray so I can at least pause it to not get Knee lock

eoin3@, Avatar 178mins, nearly 3 hours... Titanic 194mins, that's over 3 hours... Avengers 143mins, that's 2 and a half hours... Transformers3 157mins, another 2.5 hours. That's 4 of the 5 highest grossing films of all time all going between 2.4-3.25 hours in length. Ahem... you were saying...
