BOX OFFICE: BATMAN v SUPERMAN Shatters Records As It Tops THE DARK KNIGHT RISES' Opening Weekend
Batman v Superman is exceeding expectations, breaking several box office records and becoming Warner Bros. biggest opening weekend of all-time. Regardless of the critics, the movie is a hit...
The critics may have enjoyed savaging Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but that hasn't had too much of an impact on its opening weekend in North America! Variety reveals that its debuted with a massive $170.1 million, giving it the best March opening of all-time and the sixth biggest domestic opening weekend in history. Moviegoers have been much kinder to the movie than critics anyway, because as well as shelling out their hard earned cash to see it, they've given it a B CinemaScore grade.
Perhaps most impressive is the fact that Batman v Superman has beaten Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, a franchise Warner Bros. relied on for years rather than adapting their DC Comics properties. It's also beaten The Dark Knight Rises' opening, making Dawn of Justice the biggest Batman opener ever. We'll have updated international numbers for you later, but it has been revealed today that the Zack Snyder helmed release has already earned $43 million in China in just two days. Like it or not, the DC Films Universe is here to stay. How many times have you seen Batman v Superman?
