BLACK ADAM Star Dwayne Johnson Teases DC Role As Emily Blunt Reiterates Lack Of Interest In Superhero Movies

Jungle Cruise co-stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt recently sat down for a lengthy interview, with The Rock hyping Black Adam and Blunt...well, she's still not interested in being part of the genre.

Black Adam recently wrapped shooting, and we're bound to get plenty of teases from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson over the next couple of weeks now that he's on the press tour for Disney's Jungle Cruise. For now, it seems that won't include a full costume reveal, which is something Warner Bros. could be saving for DC FanDome when the virtual event returns this October.

Recently, both he and Emily Blunt caught up with The Hollywood Reporter for a lengthy chat, and the pro wrestler turned Hollywood A-Lister dropped more hints about what fans can expect.

"Black Adam has all the powers of Superman, but the difference is he is blessed with magic," Johnson explains. "And also, by a code of ethics in the world of superheroes, they don’t kill the bad guys, but Black Adam does. There were a lot of elements like that that made me feel this is a real opportunity here. I felt like everything that I had done in the past in terms of my career, all the movies that I had done over the decades, even the ones that didn’t do well, all led to this particular role."

Johnson's first foray into the world of superheroes is clearly one he's taking seriously, but his Jungle Cruise costar doesn't necessarily see the appeal of comic book movies.

Blunt has made that clear in the past - despite being a fan-favourite choice to take on the role of Invisible Woman in the Fantastic Four reboot - and reiterated her stance in this interview. "I really understand that [superhero movies] are like a religion for a lot of people," she says. "They don’t appeal to me in the same way. I don’t have this burning desire to play a superhero."

At this point, the chances of Marvel Studios convincing Blunt to play Sue Storm have to be somewhere between slim and none...unless she just so happens to have an extraordinary poker face!

Jungle Cruise is set to be released on July 30. Check back here next week for our review.

It must suck when every interview devolves into talks about superhero movies

Blunt is in a very envious position for many actors
Make/Female. She doesn’t need to have a Franchise to support her like so many others do.
She is able to maintain a star status minus the “Franchise”.
Albeit QUIET PLACE has become a franchise but I’m not sure if that was the plan all along.

But for so many other of the actors…they have their Franchise/Comic Role and then not very much which carries a big appeal.

Good for her.

Ugh... not looking forward to how bad this movie ends up being...

It's been 5+ years of the Rock talking about this stupid role...

@TheMandalorian - you think its stupid that an actor promotes a role that fans had him pegged for for longer than that... guess he should just stop b4 it gets annoying or stupid. so if its actually good will the Mandalorian change his tune? tune in next time

@TheMandalorian - God forbid they take their time to craft a compelling story with unique aesthetics and groundbreaking effects.

@TheMandalorian -

If you're certain the movie is gonna be bad why not just skip it?

I hate that he see Black Adam as a hero. I know a lot of people see themselves as the hero of their own story, but BA is at best an anti-hero and been straight up evil for most of his creation. I fear where they try to take this.

I had no idea until recently Dwayne Johnson had this much passion for Black Adam. Nice to see.

It's cool to see how passionate the Rock is for Black Adam, and Blunt not caring (but also not talking down) on any roles. Wish not every interview it's brought up again though.

she has no burning desire to play a super hero but look at some of her roles she has already played or is cast in ...
she seems to gravitate towards some heroic roles when she isnt stuck in a drama

How dare she not have an interest in a superhero role?! How dare she look down her nose at superhero movies?!

I respect Dwayne's work ethic and dedication, but I don't like that he treats movies as 'business' first and entertainment second. He's always all about how much money his movies make and in which countries they're number one at the box offices.

I remember when Skyscraper failed to deliver at the box office. It was the first of his solo starring movies to bomb at the box office. He put out a massive rant on Instagram basically telling the movie going audience that they were wrong to not like the movie.

I think he's ideally cast as Black Adam but at the same time I don't want him to try and become the 'king' of the DC movie universe. I hope they keep the character to his source limits and don't try to elevate him to the top of the DC pecking order just because he's played by Dwayne Johnson.

They should stop asking Emily Blunt that, it's pure cringe.
