Black Adam recently wrapped shooting, and we're bound to get plenty of teases from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson over the next couple of weeks now that he's on the press tour for Disney's Jungle Cruise. For now, it seems that won't include a full costume reveal, which is something Warner Bros. could be saving for DC FanDome when the virtual event returns this October.
Recently, both he and Emily Blunt caught up with The Hollywood Reporter for a lengthy chat, and the pro wrestler turned Hollywood A-Lister dropped more hints about what fans can expect.
"Black Adam has all the powers of Superman, but the difference is he is blessed with magic," Johnson explains. "And also, by a code of ethics in the world of superheroes, they don’t kill the bad guys, but Black Adam does. There were a lot of elements like that that made me feel this is a real opportunity here. I felt like everything that I had done in the past in terms of my career, all the movies that I had done over the decades, even the ones that didn’t do well, all led to this particular role."
Johnson's first foray into the world of superheroes is clearly one he's taking seriously, but his Jungle Cruise costar doesn't necessarily see the appeal of comic book movies.
Blunt has made that clear in the past - despite being a fan-favourite choice to take on the role of Invisible Woman in the Fantastic Four reboot - and reiterated her stance in this interview. "I really understand that [superhero movies] are like a religion for a lot of people," she says. "They don’t appeal to me in the same way. I don’t have this burning desire to play a superhero."
At this point, the chances of Marvel Studios convincing Blunt to play Sue Storm have to be somewhere between slim and none...unless she just so happens to have an extraordinary poker face!
Jungle Cruise is set to be released on July 30. Check back here next week for our review.
