BLACK ADAM Will Reportedly Feature Appearances From Hawkman, Stargirl, And JSA Members

It's been four and a half years since Dwayne Johnson was announced as Black Adam, but it seems like the project is finally coming together based on some new story details which come from the latest draft.

Originally, Black Adam was supposed to appear in Shazam! but plans changed and the character is now getting his own solo movie. That's been in the works for what feels like forever, but according to That Hashtag Show, Adam Szytkiel (who was hired back in 2017) recently handed in a new draft which is reportedly inspired by Geoff Johns' early 2000s work.

It's said that Carter Hall, a.k.a. Hawkman, will have a role in the movie and he'll be squaring off with the titular anti-hero. Warner Bros. is looking for an actor in the 30 - 35 range who can convincingly take the fight to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Interestingly, Justice Society of America characters Atom Smasher and Stargirl  - who will soon appear in her own live-action DC Universe TV series - are also expected to appear. They're a couple in the comic books, and the studio is eyeing actors in the 20 - 29 range to play the heroes.

With production on Black Adam unlikely to begin until early 2020, it's going to be quite some time until we see anything from this one but casting could easily begin during the second half of the year.

Either way, it's definitely interesting to see so many familiar faces from the DC Comics Universe added to this movie, especially when we mostly assumed it would be a standalone adventure for the character. Fingers crossed it succeeds, because that's probably the only way we'll see Black Adam and Shazam finally come to blows on the big screen.

I think having Hawkman as the opposite force is actually a pretty good plan. Would also be cool to see the original Justice Society too

@MalseMarcel - Yeah because he's ancient soul, but I actually don't think he's name will Carter Hall, but prince Khufu. Isn't this going to be a origin story for Black Adam.

@Poochie - Yep, those two go way back.

@MalseMarcel - Not sure if this will work in favor of Black Adam. If DC introduces a Hero & Superhero team (JSA) to fight Black Adam, wouldn't the heroes steal the spotlight from a Black Adam movie? I feel like we might get another Man of Steel, where Zod & Michael Shannon stole the movie from Superman because they were more interesting.

I always thought Hawkman was similar to Wolverine. Hawkman is cursed with the ability to experience life through many reincarnations and Wolverine is long lived. Both characters have rich stories because they experienced more in life than their teammates. Both also use "special type of metals" as weapons to enhance their natural abilities.

@mastakilla39 -
If they have the whole team in the movie, they can’t possibly elaborate on all of them. So as long as it’s a character type movie about Black Adam rather than a bunch of fight scenes like MOS, I think it will be fine.

Yeah, I wonder who they pick as Hawkman.

That seems a bit random. I’m not very knowledgeable about Black adam or the JSA, but do they have any history together in the comics?

@PicolasCage - Definately. Since early 2000s he has been pretty much a JSA character.

@PicolasCage - He was in the JSA together with Captain Marvel during the Geoff Johns run.

Surprising considering DC's rule about using movie characters in TV shows. It's strange that they selectively apply that rule.

@Nightwing1015 - I feel like they’re actually pretty consistent about trying characters out on TV first and then putting them in movies

@DillonEnnis - Yeah but they seem to have different standards for different characters. They will only allow one Batman and Slade on screen but they're fine with two Flashes, Supermen and Stargirls.

Damn this sounds good. Ever since they put the intro with all the characters at the start of their movies I’ve been waiting for them to be used

@NicolausCopernicus - Hawkman would fit in their in one of his origins he was Egyptian prince Khufu. The rest of the JSA not so much.
