BLACK PANTHER Now Tracking For An Unbelievable $165 Million+ Opening Weekend

The earliest tracking data from last month forecasted a $125 million opening weekend for Marvel's Black Panther, which would have been the second-highest February opening of all-time. Then, last week, we learned that estimates had skyrocketed to the $150 million range, potentially making the Ryan Coogler-directed film the biggest February opener of all-time, topping the R-Rated Deadpool.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the early tracking data has jumped once again and the Chadwick Boseman-starrer may now actually open to $165 million or more this Presidents Day weekend, making it the highest grossing February opener of all-time and the fifth-highest opener in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. It would also become the biggest-opening weekend for a superhero origin movie ever (not accounting for inflation) and the sixth-biggest opening weekend for a superhero movie ever (not accounting for inflation).

The film has received widespread critical acclaim and is currently boasting a 97% "Certified Fresh" rating on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes as well as an exceptional "Metascore" of 87 on fellow aggregator Metacritic.

So, what do you guys think? Have you already booked your tickets? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.

@lulslee - It doesn't have to be the white death (snow) although that will do the job. Bitterly cold weather will keep people at home. So it is a definite risk. Frankly not just any movie can prosper in this month but two kinds I know of that do are those linked to Black History Month and/or Valentines Day. That said its still a risk for a high cost film and Hollywood avoids risk whenever they can.

@knocturnalzen10 - As annoying as she is, with the way people have been going in on her, Black Panther had better top Wonder Woman's domestic less she wind up with the last laugh.

That being said, I don't care one way or the other -- Thursday and Friday can't get here soon enough!

@EskimoJ - Black Panther bulldozing WW's opening weekend numbers is gonna steam that chick's slip no matter whether it tops domestic, too. And if BP's RT percentage is higher, expect a total meltdown.

@EskimoJ - "Had better." Eh. As long as it makes a shit load more than 500m, I don't care. It doesn't need to top WW. Just needs to be a decent sized success (7-780m and I'm happy as Hell). Anything after that is dickwaving.
