BLACK PANTHER Remains King At #1 For The 4th Weekend In A Row; Roars To A Strong $66.5 Million Debut In China
For the fourth weekend in a row, Marvel and Ryan Coogler's Black Panther, which became the 33rd film to cross the billion-dollar marker yesterday, is the number one film in the world! Come check it out!
Despite a new challenger this weekend, Marvel's Black Panther absolutely could not be stopped yet again as it roared to another $41.1 million, which was more than good enough to secure itself the #1 spot at the domestic box office for the fourth weekend in a row - also, the first film in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe to remain at #1 for four consecutive weeks. Meanwhile, its fellow Disney production, Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle In Time, which received an extremely mixed critical reception and an underwhelming "B" CinemaScore, finished second with approximately $33.3 million.
With over $562 million in the bank from the United States alone, Black Panther has now become the second highest-grossing superhero movie domestically of all-time (not accounting for inflation), behind only Marvel's The Avengers ($623.3M). However, once adjusted for inflation, Black Panther would rank as the fifth-highest grossing superhero movie of all-time domestically behind The Avengers ($705.7M adjusted), The Dark Knight ($683.5M adjusted), Spider-Man ($637.8M adjusted), and Batman ($577.9M adjusted).
The Ryan Coogler-directed film also had a pretty stellar launch in China where it brought in just over $66.5 million in its first three days of release, making it the largest internatinoal terrority for the film. Its international sum stands well above $516.6 million (not including China) and as of this posting, the film has earned over $1.078 billion worldwide, which makes it the twenty-first highest-grossing film of all-time (not accounting for inflation).
