Marvel Hoping To Shoot Parts Of BLACK PANTHER In Africa

Diversity is the name of the game with Black Panther. Director and co-writer Ryan Coogler (Creed) is African American as is fellow scribe Joe Robert Cole (The People v. O.J. Simpson). The cast meanwhile has attracted some amazing talent, including Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong'o, and Michael B. Jordan, and it sounds like Marvel will make the movie even more authentic by shooting in Africa.

Talking to The Undefeated, Black Panther executive producer Nate Moore revealed: "We’ll do our stage work in Atlanta. And we’re definitely investigating shooting in Africa … both Marvel and Ryan feel that would be really good for the movie. We just haven’t drilled down on it yet." That promises to be very cool, and it will be interesting to see where in that continent they decide to shoot.

Regardless, this will no doubt make Black Panther feel a lot more real despite the fact that Wakanda is a fictional nation. Alas, we have to wait until 2018 to see the movie, but stay tuned for details!

Diversity isn't really the name of the game with Black Panther. Black is. Not hating... Just saying. So looking forward to this though!

African and Black Panther fan here and all I want to say is this: Let the movie be good first and foremost. A good script, good acting, good story and good world building. Without these it doesn't matter how "African" or "Black" this movie is. With Coogler and the actors on board they are on the right track. Hopefully, they stay on it.

@Aeggie - Of course it matters how "African" and "black" the movie is, To say otherwise literally makes no sense. The character in the comics is African, the story at times takes place in Africa.

It goes without saying that it should be a good, as in well-written and acted, movie first, though to say that it doesn't matter how African or black it is is extremely disingenous.

@Kozmik - no, what I meant to infer was that it shouldn't be the MAIN priority for the movie. It was already a given that the Black Panther movie would feature a predominantly black cast and be set partly in Africa. What I want is just a well made movie with great writing, pacing, CHARACTERIZATION (the most important thing imo), drama and action. Basically, I want it to be like Priest's Black Panther run where the writing, action and characterization was EXCELLENT and where what made Black Panther awesome was not just his race but his character.

@Kozmik - Let me just give one more example of what I mean. Remeber the Princess and the frog disney movie? The one with Tiana, prince whats-his-face, Dr Fucilier and many other characters? The movie had Disney first black princes but it was not one of their best animated movies due to a mediocre plot and okay writing. Same thing happened with Brave (first DIsney princess to not get married and be independent) because of a mediocre story and poor characterization. That is not what I want for Black Panther which is why I am stressing the importance of the movie being well made.
