BLACK WIDOW And THUNDERBOLTS* Star Florence Pugh Reveals The One Movie "I Wish I Never Did"

Avengers: Doomsday star Florence Pugh has reflected on an early project in her acting career that she still regrets being part of to this day. It's not an MCU movie or TV show, but is a genre title...

Florence Pugh is only 29, but she's already had an incredible career. Following breakout roles in Fighting with My Family and Midsommar, the British actress entered the blockbuster realm with 2020's Black Widow and, as Yelena Belova, established herself as a firm fan-favourite among MCU fans.

However, there's one project that Pugh deeply regrets. Released in 2018, Malevolent is a British supernatural horror film directed by Olaf de Fleur Johannesson and based on Eva Konstantopoulos' novel, Hush

Pugh played a scam artist who, alongside her brother, fakes paranormal encounters. However, things go wrong for them, and they get more than they bargained for when they're enlisted by Mrs Greene, who calls them about ghost girls "screaming" in her house. Malevolent has 54% on Rotten Tomatoes and a dire 18% on the fan-generated "Popcornmeter."

In an interview with Louis Theroux, Pugh looked back on Malevolent in an extremely negative light, singling it out as the one movie she regrets more than any other.

"It’s probably the one movie that I wish I never did," she confessed. "I think everybody has one of those movies. I think it was just a movie that I did when I was younger, and I needed money. And I was like, 'Well, obviously this is great.' And then I got there, and it wasn’t great."

Pugh didn't elaborate on what was so bad about the experience, but fortunately for her, Malevolent is one of those Netflix-exclusive movies that's vanished into the streaming abyss. For what it's worth, Johannesson hasn't directed another feature since, though he did helm documentaries, King of the Butterflies and Self-Defence

Elsewhere in the interview, Pugh opened up on her Avengers: Doomsday experience. "The other day, I was on set with the most incredible cast, and we’re all dressed in our superhero costumes, and we’re all playing," the actress revealed. "Like, just playing as if we’re saving the world. It’s just such a unique thing to do."

As the leader of the New Avengers alongside Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova is expected to play a pivotal role in Avengers: Doomsday. Leaked concept art has also suggested that Yelena will be part of Doctor Doom's court when he reshapes the Multiverse into "Battleworld" in Avengers: Secret Wars

2026 promises to be an exciting year for Pugh. She'll return as Yelena Belova in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday, and plays Princess Irulan in Dune: Part Three (the latter two are both currently scheduled to open on December 18).

@Malatrova15 - Definitely acting as if she was touched. If she wasn't, then she was part of the problem.

@Baf - Those are the only options: You were inappropriately touched or you were part of the problem?

Damn , that honestly made me more curious to check it out then deterring me haha…

The premise seems interesting so I wonder what went wrong for her aswell as the audience going by their 18% RT score for the film.

Anyway , she’s young (and a very talented actress) so having one movie she regrets doing so far isn’t bad at all but hopefully she has no more moving forward as impossible as that seems!!.

She probably was put through a bad production and an uncomfortable experience.

Just now realizing that Doomsday and Dune 3 are currently scheduled for the same release date. One of those is definitely going to move and my money would be on it being Dune.

@Shivermetimbers - Yeh I dunno why Dune went with that date TBH all things considered, the first was an Oct release date if memory serves, second shifted from a Nov one I think to around March. December normaly has at least one big budget CBM type (or an Avatar type release) and at least one likely big BO kids film (oft a few) so a crowded field for a franchise that doesn't have a history of being a Christmas hit. As such, yeh if either moves it is likely to be Dune, probably to another March release.

@Apophis71 - DUNE PART 1 had multiple delays due to COVID-19. DUNE PART 2 was also affected by the pandemic and later by the two Hollywood strikes (writers and actors). DUNE PART 3 might move off it's December 18, 2026 release date but likely forward (Thanksgiving?) and not back into 2027. The filming wrapped last week and is now in post-production. Director Denis Villeneuve's next project will be the highly anticipated new Amazon produced James Bond film and that clock is ticking loudly.

I also believe that the DUNE PART 3 release date was made before AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY chose the same date. Warner Bros. may have opted for a different date had Marvel/Disney chose it first.

@MacPhisto - All points true but whatever the specific details I still agree with the OP that Dune is the one more likely to move in one direction or the other as can't see them staying as released the exact same day.
