The first wave of reviews for Black Widow arrived earlier this week, and the response to the first Marvel Studios movie since 2019 has so far been extremely positive.
Now, with a total of 146 reviews counted (expect more to follow when it arrives in UK cinemas next Wednesday and in U.S. theaters/Disney+'s Premier Access service), the movie has been officially "Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes with a solid 84% score.
"Black Widow's deeper themes are drowned out in all the action," reads the Critics Consensus, "but it remains a solidly entertaining standalone adventure that's rounded out by a stellar supporting cast." This is a good start for the first Phase 4 movie, and the latest Marvel Studios release to earn this accolade; the only ones that haven't are The Incredible Hulk and Thor: The Dark World.
In our review, we concluded by saying, "Black Widow is Bourne meets Bond meets Terminator...with two outstanding, badass female leads. Action-packed, funny, and at times surprisingly gut-wrenching, Cate Shortland's vision for the MCU is bold, empowering, and utterly unmissable."
At 84%, Black Widow now ranks between Ant-Man (83%) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2/Avengers: Infinity War (85%).
