BLACK WIDOW: Kevin Feige Says The Movie Will Fill In Some Of The Gaps In The Infinity Saga

During a recent interview (which took place before the movie was postponed), Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige explained that Black Widow will reveal what Natasha Romanoff has been doing between films.

Black Widow was recently delayed due to COVID-19 concerns, and the movie is now set to be released in Eternals' November slot. That's obviously disappointing, but it's good that it finally has a release date, and we now just have to hope that it's able to meet it as planned despite current world events.

During an interview with Total Film Magazine (via Screen Rant), Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige dropped more hints about what fans can expect from the first Phase 4 movie, and pointed to it filling in some gaps in the Infinity Saga's storied history...specifically those between films!

Acknowledging that they have "hinted at [Natasha Romanoff's backstory] throughout all the other films," he promised that "we approach it in a completely unexpected way" in Black Widow. He even explained that, "She’s been up to a lot all along – in between when we see her in the other movies – some of which will be surprising to people."

It's no secret that Black Widow takes place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, but it sounds like those won't be the only movies this one revisits.

The events surrounding Iron Man 2 seem likely, of course, but Black Widow must have also done a lot in the time between Captain America: The Winter Soldier (where she exposed many of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s secrets to the world) and Avengers: Age of Ultron. It seems we'll just have to wait and see for now.

What do you guys think?

I'm not exactly sure how pre-selected release dates work exactly, but would it not be impossible to move the date up just a little bit.

@MasterMix - They can move it wherever they want but why on earth would they now want to move it up?

@LongMayHeReign - I only mean if this virus is eradicated sooner rather than later.

@MasterMix - Yeah I know what you meant but even then they will be in a much better position allowing people as much time as possible to acclimate themselves back to normal life. Let's be honest there will 100% be people still fearful of going out among others until there's a vaccine.

@MasterMix - It's NOT going to be eradicated any time soon. Stop listening to the moron in the White House and start looking at how it's developing around the world. Asia specifically. We've been dealing with COVID-19 since the beginning of January and it's STILL an enormous problem. Every country's boarders are closed. China was DREAMING when it thought they could re-open Wuhan, or movie cinemas. Just look at how quickly they back-tracked. It can be transmitted via animals too, which makes it even harder to track.

Bottom Line - The time for optimism is LONG over. You need to be realistic and temper expectations. Black Widow in cinemas in November? Maybe. Anytime sooner? Not a chance.

@MasterMix - Also, the best eradication will be after they find a vaccine, and they have estimated this will take about 18 months.

Nice nods and gap fillers would be cool to see. I just want solid story with less comedic troupes. Winter Soldier/ SALT vibes. My two cents.

@tripttwe - My biggest hope with this movie is that it sets up the Thunderbolts. It would make sense timeline-wise also.

If we see the beginnings of the Thunderbolts in this movie then it makes sense why they weren't around during Infinity War and End Game. We know Thunderbolt Ross is one of the people that got dusted in the snap. So what if we see him putting together the first members of his team in Black Widow, but before he's able to put it all together and form a complete team, he got snapped and it all got put on hold. Maybe some of the members of his team got snapped too?

Then, after End Game, he comes back and picks up where he left off. Maybe we even see the first complete team in Falcon and Winter Soldier?

Just wishful thinking...
