BLACK WIDOW Long Range Projection Points To $90 Million - $130 Million Opening Weekend

As if right now, we still don't know whether Black Widow will actually meet its release date due to the coronavirus (Disney insists it will), but long range projections point to a big domestic debut...

Following the recent delay of No Time to Die, there's a lot of uncertainty surrounding the summer box office season, but Disney is currently committed to releasing Black Widow as planned. A lot could change between now and May, of course, especially as we still don't know how bad things are going to get with the coronavirus.

Regardless, Box Office Pro has shared some long-range projections which point to a $90 million - $130 million debut at the North American box office.

The site believes that Black Widow has a lot going for it, including a ten month absence for the Marvel Cinematic Universe from theaters following the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home last year. It will also be the first major tentpole to arrive since this month's Mulan, so moviegoers will be anxious for another big budget blockbuster with No Time to Die now missing from April.

What goes against the Marvel Studios movie?

Well, it mostly boils down to the fact that Black Widow is set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. As the site notes, "audiences know [Black Widow] met her demise in last year’s Avengers: Endgame. Typically, franchise movies that look backward instead of forward in their storytelling don’t perform up to the same high-tier box office levels as their predecessors."

Are you guys excited to see Black Widow in theaters this May? Do you think Disney would delay the film if theaters around the globe start shutting down? Share your thoughts down below.

Not even a viral epidemic can keep the MCU down.

Giving a movie a $40m range doesn't seem like precise tracking

@tmp3 - Endgame saw between 260 to 300, Joker saw between 50 to 100, heck even New Mutants is seeing between opening at all and 50.
