BLACK WIDOW: Natasha Romanoff Takes The Fight To Yelena Belova In Leaked D23 Footage

A very brief bit of footage (to be honest, it's basically a GIF) from the upcoming Black Widow has found its way online after screening at D23 last week, and it sees Natasha viciously attack Yelena Belova.

On the heels of the What If..? images, the same source has shared a couple of seconds (if that) of footage from Marvel Studios and director Cate Shortland's upcoming Black Widow movie.

It's really not much, but we do get to see Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) throw-down with Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), and brutally smash her opponent into a cabinet.

Specific plot details remain under wraps, but we do know that Black Widow will take place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, and see Natasha go up against several adversaries including Taskmaster and Red Guardian.

Johansson was recently profiled by THR, and while she didn't reveal any new details about Widow's solo adventure, she did share her thoughts on the character's somewhat controversial demise in Avengers: Endgame. "It felt in-character that she would sacrifice herself," Johansson told the trade. "Of course for humanity but actually for her friends, for the people she loves. It was bittersweet."

Check out the full interview here, and let us know what you think of this GIF in the comments. We're aware there's not much to discuss, but hopefully more footage will find its way online soon.

Johansson is about to get slapped down HARD by Disney.

She came out saying Woody Allen was innocent of the sexual charges against him.

That's pretty freaking nasty. Everyone knows Allen is a slimy little weasel.

I hope it's more of a political thriller like Winter Soldier, the best MCU movie imo.

@jj2112 - Winter Soldier is not a political thriller

I anticipate Belova being set up to carry on the mantle of Black Widow in the MCU. If she's one of the bad guys here, I see Natasha sparing her like Clint spared Natasha, bringing her journey full circle and giving Belova the opportunity for a similar journey of redemption. Maybe they'll pair her with Bucky since we never got the Natasha/Bucky romance.

Setting it between TWS and Infinity War seems strange. I know she was on the run during that time, but they had a FIVE year gap to play around with and completely ignored it.

I hope to see a trailer by November. I'm not really excited for MCU in 2020, except for the Bucky/Falcon show.

The thing I actually want to see most from this movie is Tef Guardian’s uniform, I figured they wouldn’t do it at all but the poster seemed to confirm it

@kylo0607 - It has been falsely labelled as one, but it actually isn't. Political thrillers actually have to do with...you know, politics. Winter Soldier really has nothing to do with politics. There's no political struggle, debate or backdrop to the story. For comparison's sake, think of V for Vendetta. That movie has a clear political backdrop that Winter Soldier does not.

Winter Soldier borrows heavily from conspiracy fiction like the Bourne Series, which is another conspiracy thriller film. As the name suggests, a conspiracy thriller is about unravelling a deep conspiracy that goes all the way to the top. That's the very essence of Winter Soldier. It's a superhero action movie with conspiracy thriller leanings, not a political thriller.

I don't completely blame people that think otherwise. Most people think they're the same thing and wrongly use the term.

@Necropolitan - Though the political content isn't all that sharp anymore, Winter Soldier is stridently anti-drone and signature strike as well as pro-radical transparency.

Because our politics went off a cliff since then, the drone conversation now seems quaint, and we've seen used more as a method of hostile disruption than of genuine democratization, so... yeah. Winter Soldier's political themes don't hold up too well anymore.

(Personally, I'm not overly fond of the labels. Winter Soldier, like all Marvel movies, dabbles in some genre trappings, but it's still mostly that same kind of squared-off blockbustery popcorn flick that they all are.)

@Necropolitan - It’s a condemnation of the politics of the Bush/Cheney era, certainly, and their belief in striking first to eliminate threats following 9/11.
