Black Widow has been hit by multiple delays, and while a fair bit of footage has already been revealed, there's a lot we don't know about the first post-COVID Marvel Studios movie.

That includes the truth about O. T. Fagbenle's "Mason," a character many fans are convinced is, in fact, Taskmaster. Very little has been revealed about his role in the movie, with the only real piece of information we have being that he's someone from Natasha Romanoff's past she turns to for help in the film.

In an interview with The Playlist, the actor dropped some intriguing hints about Mason.

"It’s really cool, actually, because you know you get those characters, like in James Bond you’ve got Q, and in Batman, I guess, you’ve got Alfred, and in some ways, I think Mason is that person who helps facilitate Black Widow’s missions with all the cool shit that she needs," he teased. "But very much unlike Q and Alfred, there’s a kind of energy between them that you pick up."

"Like, 'Is it all business, or is it not?' So there’s something enjoyable about that; that kind of dynamic between the two characters. I hesitate to say that he’s a little fun. It’s quite a fun character, although you might get a sense he’s got a dark side. But yeah, I can’t say too much."

It sounds like there could be a romantic history between Natasha and Mason, but we're still not 100% convinced that he is Taskmaster. Then again, as predictable as a reveal like that might be, it's not like we didn't all see that Agnes/Agatha Harkness twist coming from a mile away in WandaVision!

As for whether Mason has a future in the MCU, Fagbenle added: "Well, I don’t know how much I can say about it, but I would say there’s probably space for this character to grow."

Black Widow is set to be released in theaters and on Disney+ on July 9, 2021.
