Black Widow has been hit by multiple delays, and while a fair bit of footage has already been revealed, there's a lot we don't know about the first post-COVID Marvel Studios movie.

That includes the truth about O. T. Fagbenle's "Mason," a character many fans are convinced is, in fact, Taskmaster. Very little has been revealed about his role in the movie, with the only real piece of information we have being that he's someone from Natasha Romanoff's past she turns to for help in the film.

In an interview with The Playlist, the actor dropped some intriguing hints about Mason.

"It’s really cool, actually, because you know you get those characters, like in James Bond you’ve got Q, and in Batman, I guess, you’ve got Alfred, and in some ways, I think Mason is that person who helps facilitate Black Widow’s missions with all the cool shit that she needs," he teased. "But very much unlike Q and Alfred, there’s a kind of energy between them that you pick up."

"Like, 'Is it all business, or is it not?' So there’s something enjoyable about that; that kind of dynamic between the two characters. I hesitate to say that he’s a little fun. It’s quite a fun character, although you might get a sense he’s got a dark side. But yeah, I can’t say too much."

It sounds like there could be a romantic history between Natasha and Mason, but we're still not 100% convinced that he is Taskmaster. Then again, as predictable as a reveal like that might be, it's not like we didn't all see that Agnes/Agatha Harkness twist coming from a mile away in WandaVision!

As for whether Mason has a future in the MCU, Fagbenle added: "Well, I don’t know how much I can say about it, but I would say there’s probably space for this character to grow."

Black Widow is set to be released in theaters and on Disney+ on July 9, 2021.

I'm so gonna pretend I'm surprised when he turns out to be Taskmaster, but I hope he isn't. Even if we're gonna made to think he is.

I can also see Taskmaster just be a title (kinda like Black Widow) as part of a new Red Room program. Maybe Tony Masters then is this Taskmaster's real name (another pretend I'm surprised moment), but I don't mind it if Taskmaster remains nameless.

@bkmeijer - i'm sincerely hoping that they're just leading us on and that taskmaster is in fact tony masters, and they somehow cast someone really cool in the role and are keeping it a secret. kinda interesting how shang chi is doing the same thing with the death dealer. no one knows who that is.

@Termin8er - that would be really cool to see. Maybe Val comes to recruit him too.

Either way, I just hope Mason isn't Taskmaster. That would just be too obvious

@bkmeijer - too obvious and weird. unless he somehow turns out to be tony masters. OT is a really good actor, i just would think they'd hire someone with serious fighting skills. the character is under a mask most of the time so they could stunt double, but still. i heard that Val was supposed to debut in Black Widow so you're probably not far off

@Termin8er - what if his name is Tony Mason? Now that would piss me off

@bkmeijer - i just laughed outloud because it seems like something they might do. i think marvel should start focusing on their bad guys now if they want people to stick around. i want someone i can believe as the taskmaster to be the taskmaster. OT just ain't it for me

@Termin8er - that I gotta agree with

I just found out this character is supposed to be the son of the thinkerer in the cómics and i keep thinking it could have been a good Way to explain his resourcefulness but i doubt theres gonna be a conection with this character

Anyways, i still think he could be taskmaster although Rachel weisz is another Big contender for me

@Dannywest - He was barely even a character in that movie.

Seems obvious that they'll spend the movie hinting that he's Taskmaster only to reveal that it's actually Rachel Weisz.

@IronDean2099 - There's a scene in the first official trailer with Rachel Weisz's character piloting a plane while Taskmaster is in the same shot attacking the plane from the outside. So unless she can be two people at the same time in the same place, it isn't her.

@Whaley87 - That's when they pick up the trope of the evil twin

Watching this dude on Handmaid's Tale and seeing him act his ass off is giving me hope that Marvel found and/or finds a meaty role for him in this film or beyond

If you combine this story with david Harbour's recent Marvel sniper bait and if he isn't Taskmaster then maybe he's playing Ursa Major.

Whether he turns out to be Taskmaster or not, that’s a comparison I’m really interested in seeing. But the “space for this character to grow” comment definitely leads me to believe that he is.
