BLACK WIDOW Star Scarlett Johansson Tiptoes Around Whether Hawkeye Is In The Film: "My Lips Are Sealed"

One of the most genuine and heartfelt relationships in the MCU has been the sibling-like dynamic between Hawkeye and Black Widow. But whether that will be addressed in her solo film is up in the air...

After months of rumors, SDCC finally unveiled the "secret" that was Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow movie.

The film, which has actually been in production for a while now, has been met with a lot of excitement, as this will mark the first time we get to delve into the into the backstory of the lethal Avenger, while also setting up future stories for the film's debuting characters.

Following the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Good Morning America aired an interview with Johansson, and the actress was asked outright whether Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye would put in an appearance. With Budapest, a recurring plot thread from previous MCU installments, finally being addressed in the solo outing, there is no way Hawkeye can't be in the film... right?

Here's what Johansson had to say:

Oh my God, that's when.you see the tranq gun come out. It's going to take you out first, then I'm going out. My lips are sealed. We have a lot of surprises up out sleeve, up our gauntlet.

If Clint Barton is set to feature in Black Widow, hopefully Marvel can keep it a secret until the film's release.

Are you looking forward to Black Widow?

It’s one of those answers where if you don’t answer it you’re actually answering it you know?

Of course he’s in it. They have so much history together and he kept bringing up Budapest.

@Frshcoupe - I dont want Budapest to end up like the Kessel Run explainer. Honestly I still dont understand what that meant in Solo.

@MrCamw1 - I feel like they won't explain it and Budapest is a new mission in this film that's simply a call back to her history. Though I could be wrong.

In this interview from Comic-Con, she says when asked about Hawkeye appearing in her movie, "there's always a chance!"

If she said no, and then he ended up in it shes a liar. She says yes it's a spoiler. She says nothing we assume yes. Theres no winning lol. If only someone had asked the Russos if Red Skull was in Infinty War. I wonder what there response would have been hahaha.

Of course he is!

Imagine if he ends up being Taskmaster all along?

@TheCantilope - he moved from arrows to swords with equal ease... maybe he is taskmaster?

@TheCantilope - except he’s under house arrest due to the deal he made after breaking out. So sorry that theory isn’t valid.

@PantherKing - Unless he made a special deal with the government that allowed him to act as a governmental killer for hire. He's on house arrest but he has to kill really bad guys for the government for a reduced sentence.

He will prolly be a mid second act surprise.

Why do people suggest that Taskmaster is really someone else all along or really a different character? Is he a shapeshifter in the comics?
PsychoticSpaceRaccoon
PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - 7/24/2019, 5:49 PM
@Frshcoupe - The fact that the suit is androgenous. The fact that there are two other Black Widows in the film (Weiz and Pugh). The fact that Taskmaster is masked, and there's dramatic potential for a reveal.

All of these reasons and more, my friend.

Who writes these questions? That is the dumbest question-is Hawkeye in the film? HELL YES!

I bet he appears in a flashback sequence only and that is the exact amount I would want him in a Black Widow focused movie.

Yup he in there, should be cool to see a younger deadlier Hawkeye. If I'm correct Hawkeye was originally an antagonist before he joined the Avengers team?
regularmovieguy
regularmovieguy - 7/24/2019, 1:01 PM
@TheRationalNerd

This will be between Civil War and Endgame so he won’t be that much younger.

And Hawkeye was only bad in the first Avengers because of the Tesseract influence from Loki.

@regularmovieguy - just curious... is that confirmed? That the entire film takes place between civil war and Infinity war?
CapnMurphy2021
CapnMurphy2021 - 7/24/2019, 3:12 PM
@TheRationalNerd - in the comics... yes. He was a villain at first (part of a villainous circus)... we don’t know what he was in the MCU (as far as I can remember)
regularmovieguy
regularmovieguy - 7/24/2019, 3:38 PM
@CapnMurphy2021

He was a SHIELD assassin of sorts in the first Thor movie.

I’m pretty sure it’s been confirmed...lemme check.

Yup, confirmed at comic con.

newhire13 - 7/24/2019, 6:05 PM
@TheRationalNerd - In the MCU Black Widow was a bad guy and Hawkeye was a SHIELD assassin sent to kill her. He spared her and recruited her though and then they became bffs lol
CapnMurphy2021
CapnMurphy2021 - 7/24/2019, 6:16 PM
@regularmovieguy - right... I mean before shield... they never mention anything before shield...
(I remember his brief cameo in Thor🤙🏼)

CapnMurphy2021 - 7/24/2019, 6:21 PM
@regularmovieguy - also... I read the article... and not sure where it’s confirmed... other than the trailer kicking off with a line from Civil War... which confirms nada...

Not saying it’s not set then... I just don’t believe it’s been confirmed... just speculated
