The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change...

Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have officially announced today that their long-awaited DC superhero blockbuster, Black Adam, will arrive in theaters on July 29, 2022.

The film will star Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson (Hobbs & ShawJungle CruiseRed Notice), making his superhero movie debut as the titular antihero, and will also introduce the Justice Society of America in key supporting roles.

Previously set to open Christmas 2021, the movie was indefinitely delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but with filming set to begin in just a few short days, it looks like the studios were finally comfortable setting a new release date. However, it's going to have its work cut out for it as it's now set to open opposite Disney and Lucasfilm's Indiana Jones 5, which has 2x Academy Award-nominee James Mangold (Logan; 3:10 to Yuma; Ford v Ferrari) directing.

Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle CruiseNon-StopThe Commuter) is directing with a screenplay from Adam Sztykiel (RampageDue DateScoob!), Rory Haines (InformerThe Mauritanian), and Sohrab Noshirvani (InformerThe Mauritanian).

In addition to Johnson, the cast will also feature Noah Centineo (Charlie's AngelsMasters of the UniverseTo All the Boys I've Loved Before) as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge (Straight Outta ComptonThe Invisible ManJack Reacher: Never Go Back) as Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell (EuphoriaTrinketsIn Treatment) as Cyclone, Sarah Shahi (AliasOld SchoolBullet to the Head) as an unnamed university professor, Marwan Kenzari (Aladdin; The Old Guard; The Mummy) in an undisclosed villain role, and 2x Golden Globe-nominee Pierce Brosnan (Tomorrow Never Dies; The World Is Not Enough; Die Another Day) as Doctor Fate.

@dracula

Black Adam won’t be the villain in this movie. I’ll say that straight up.

The only way Dwayne agreed to this is if they make Black Adam the new Superman.

@LilJimmy

Pretty sure he talked with Cavill about teaming up at some point. Maybe for BA.

@ThorArms - I’m almost 100% sure it’s setting up Shazam 3, which will be the “ultimate battle” against Black Adam
