BLACK ADAM Features A Surprise Cameo From A Hollywood Legend As A DC Comics Superhero - SPOILERS

Black Adam features a surprise, unexpected cameo from a Hollywood legend playing a superhero from the DC Universe! It's a blink-and-you'd-miss-it moment, but we have all the details you need right here.

In Black Adam, we're introduced to the DC Extended Universe's Justice Society of America. The team is comprised of Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan's Dr. Fate, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone, and Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher.

The latter embarks on his first adventure here and clearly has big shoes to fill. On his way to Carter Hall's mansion, he catches up with his uncle by video chat, but Uncle Al - the first Atom Smasher - has a familiar face. Did you recognise him?

It's Hollywood legend Henry Winkler, who is perhaps most famous for playing the Fonz in Happy Days.

Of course, he's taken on plenty of other noteworthy roles over the years, including Arrested Development, Barry, and The French Dispatch. It's an unexpected, somewhat strange cameo, though the Black Adam team clearly wanted to surprise moviegoers with a well-known, likeable actor for this comedic exchange.

This is a departure from the comic books where Al Pratt, or "Uncle Al" in the DCEU, is actually Al Rothstein's godfather rather than his uncle.

It's established that Al is wearing his uncle's suit for this team-up with the JSA, so this is a nice nod to this shared world's history and the fact superheroes have existed for a long time. That does slightly contradict what we saw in movies like Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but this society of superheroes has clearly been around for a while.

Whereas Zack Snyder appeared to view Superman as the world's first superhero, this new era of storytelling looks to be creating a similar reality to the comic books where heroes and villains have spent decades battling each other. What's most confusing, though, is why Amanda Waller appears so heavily involved with the team after the events of Peacemaker.

Did you guys catch this fun Black Adam cameo?

"Hollywood legend"?
Thought it was gonna be a big name.

Fonz from Happy Days. Okay. Little bit random, but whatever.

@tvor03 - Not exactly Brad Pitt in Deadpool 2 or Matt Damon in Thor: Ragnarok now is he?

What's he done since Happy Days? A cameo in Scream and Community? Wow. What a legend. How did they manage to get him?

I would place the Man in Black somewhere between "Aquaman" and "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness". Fairly stupid and thin on plot, but as a massive and loud non-stop action roller coaster ride filled with comic book oddities its also damn fun. Ngl, I had a good time.

My ratings for 2022 so far:

1. Batman: 8/10
2. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: 6,5/10
3. Black Adam - 6/10
4. Thor: Love and Thunder - 3/10

Makes sense. Skipping confrontation with Captain Shazam and going directly towards Superman you could say the franchise has … Jumped the shark.

Heh. To think a fancasting of mine from way back would come true—though not as the JSA’er I expected. Amiright, @ager?
