Wesley Snipes' Original BLADE Is Getting A 4K Ultra HD Release (With An Awesome Steelbook)

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced that Stephen Norrington's original Blade, which stars Wesley Snipes in the title role as the badass vampire hunter, will be arriving on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on December 1.

In addition to a standard edition, Blade will also receive a special edition Best Buy-exclusive Steelbook that is already available to pre-order for $44.99. However, it should be noted that that price point is likely to drop as we approach the end of the year.

The original film was a roaring success and ultimately spawned two hit sequels - Blade II (2002) and Blade: Trinity (2004) - before going dormant for over a decade after the critical response to the third film. The character's rights eventually reverted back to Marvel in 2012, and just last year, during their San Diego Comic-Con presentation, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige finally announced plans for a new Blade film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with 2x Academy Award-winner Mahershala Ali in the lead role.

It's tentatively scheduled to be part of Phase Five, with a possible 2022 release date being considered.

In addition to Snipes, the first film also starred N'Bushe Wright (Dr. Karen Jenson), Stephen Dorff (Deacon Frost), Kris Kristofferson (Abraham Whistler), Donal Logue (Quinn), Udo Kier (Gitano Dragonetti), and Sanaa Lathan (Vanessa Brooks).

I might be missing something, but why so many articles about 4k Ultra HD releases?

@comicfan100 - Better question:
Why are we getting articles about movie interviews, which have nothing to do with comic books?

@DARKSIDEIS - I've been wondering that myself. Most likely because of lack of CBM content recently. This one at least qualifies. Time to upgrade!

When are we getting MCU Blade tho?
Mahershala Ali will soon be 50 years old :/

@DARKSIDEIS - I feel like age is only a concern for certain actors. Ali looks like he’s in his late 30s and the way these actors train and prep nowadays they can be older and still last for a bit.

@BlackBeltJones - I hope you're right.
But if we do the math... if Blade has a trilogy, it will last 10 years. And I'm not even including team-ups and events, so Ali will be 60 years old, and I don't think he will be very acrobatic then.

@DARKSIDEIS - Blade is part vampire and doesn't age. I don't think Ali's age matters in this case.
GhostDog

@MovieMonster - he just ages slowly right? You could say he’s been alive 100 years but looks about 40. 100 years for him is equivalent to middle age.

@DARKSIDEIS - they’re going to have to make as much use of him as possible but I definitely see them doing something different as they don’t want to just do what the hold films did. And legacy is something marvel seem to be exploring in phase 4 so I could see Ali’s Blade passing the torch to his daughter in the MCU at some point

@DARKSIDEIS - That was my first concern. There's the long running theme black don't crack, but guess what, those knees and backs can give out with age. I try to keep myself in pretty good shape, but I'm nowhere near what I was 10 years ago and he has almost another decade on top of that. Mother nature is undefeated.

@DARKSIDEIS - 60 years is nothing. Do you think RDJ does all the Iron Man's stunts himself? These actors are there to plast their famous faces on a green screen for these superheroes movies so kids can drag their parents to theaters and studios can make double dipping in tickets sale.

@TheOtherOn - I get your thinking. But Blade has different kind of action, he's not a guy with an iron suit (which can be worn by anyone bts).
RDJ was doing his stunts only in IM1, after that I don't think so. But Blade doesn't wear a mask, so Ali will have to do some or most of the action.

@DARKSIDEIS - I mean...theres a whole pandemic going on right now thats stopped a lot of tv shows and movie's production

@DARKSIDEIS - Hmmm Sounds like you have no idea how CGI works and how advanced it is. Hell, on youtube amateurs are making those "Derpfake" videos and here we are talking about movies with 200+ million USD budgets.

They can literally use a body double for the entire movie and replace the face with actor and have them dub the dialogs if they want. There are some rules to prevent that due to credits and other benefits come with staring in a movie tho but that's a different topic.

@TheOtherOn - You're right, I have no idea, how advanced today's technology is. That fake ''acting'' sounds terrifying.
If they do it, I hope they make Ali look good, and not like a deleted mustache.

If the steelbox isn't shaped like an ice skate then someone in marketing better be looking for a new job.

Honestly, it was downhill after Blade 1. 2 is fine but a bit stale in my opinion. Missed the frenetic energy and urban grit of the first. Trinity is hot garbage.

@BlackBeltJones - 1. Fantastic. 2. Blade was the least interesting character in his own film. 3. Everyone phoned-it-in.

The question is, are they still gonna keep parading the "Black Panther is the first Black Superhero solo movie" bogus claim or finally acknowledge the truth?
