Originally developed for the HBO Max streaming service, fans grew concerned that Blue Beetle may suffer the same fate as the recently cancelled Batgirl, but the movie was given a theatrical release date shortly after Warner Bros. was acquired by Discovery.
Rumors had been doing the rounds that the trailer may screen with Shazam! Fury of the Gods (which obviously never happened), but it sounds like we may not have too much longer to wait for our first look at Jaime Reyes in action.
Actor George Lopez shared an Instagram photo will fellow cast members Xolo Maridueña, Harvey Guillén and director Ángel Manuel Soto, promising his followers that the trailer is "coming soon."
It's not much to go on, but we'd be very surprised if the first teaser wasn't released within the next couple of weeks.
"Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it," reads the synopsis. "As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab."
"When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle."
The cast also includes Susan Sarandon, Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Raoul Max Trujillo.
Blue Beetle is set to be released in theaters on August 18, 2023.
