The trailer for Blue Beetle is now online, giving Jamie Reyes fans an exciting glimpse of DC's first big-screen Latino superhero in action.

In the teaser, Reyes unwittingly acquires the Scarab, and must quickly come to grips with the abilities it grants when he's reluctantly bonded with the alien armor.

Batman gets a mention right at the end (The Dark Knight doesn't seem to be very popular in the Reyes household!), and we also get a quick look at the suits worn by the original Blue Beetle, Ted Kord.

Originally developed for the HBO Max streaming service, fans grew concerned that Blue Beetle may suffer the same fate as the recently cancelled Batgirl, but the movie was given a theatrical release date shortly after Warner Bros. was acquired by Discovery.

"Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it," reads the synopsis. "As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab."

"When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle."

The cast also includes Susan Sarandon, Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Raoul Max Trujillo.

Blue Beetle is set to be released in theaters on August 18, 2023.

@KyoShiRo330 - newsflash, its an origin superhero movie. Ofc its gonna look familiar, get over yourself.

@rebellion - Oh sorry I didn't knew there was only one template to make an origin story. At the end I don't give a shit, if a movie is like the other hundred movies before him, why would I watch?

@rebellion - That excuse making the exact same movie 50 times?

@KyoShiRo330 -
There are only, like, half a dozen actual stories. They are all dressed up differently but are essentially the same thing.

@KyoShiRo330 - I still find myself confused by WB's direction. They say they are moving away from family content and ditched a bunch of stuff from the HBO Max streamer, but Shazam 2 and Blue Beetle have both definitely felt more geared to a younger audience.

@thewanderer - I don’t recall WB ever saying that at all

@JoJo1982 - This isn't the first time they said it, but one of the recent references.

"Live-action kids and family programming will not be part of our programming focus in the immediate future, and as a result, we've had to make the very difficult decision to end Gordita Chronicles at HBO Max," Warner Bros. Discovery said in a statement when Gordita Chronicles was cancelled.

They've been cutting kids programming left and right.

This definitely looks like a movie made for TV, though more likely The CW than HBO Max.

@JoshWilding - I had the same thought as I watched some of it. Looks pretty entertaining at least. Not sure how the general audience will react to the character.

@JoshWilding - And Batgirl wasn't good enough for cinema or TV.

The trailer looks great to me, & I really like the cast members.

But I still think the DCFU will have somehow screwed it up & it will flop.

Kinda gives me a shazam vibe. Young guy gets this great power thing & then acts goofy a lot.

@DocSpock - I think he'll be more Spiderman/Peter Parker acting then Shazam. I.E. young and learning while a bit awkward but not goofy and childish.

The FX look pretty good. And the suit doesn't get any better than that in Live Action.

Generic, but entertaining and heartfelt.

Also, show some support for the Cobra Kai family, yall!

I really love the cast. Oddly enough I was getting ms marvel vibes throughout the trailer. Probably because of the family aspect, colors, and age of the hero. Not to mention thr cast is mostly brown people. Nice to see this

Always a huge fan of blue beetle. So this has my attention
