Xolo Maridueña On BLUE BEETLE's DC Future- "If It Does Well, We Get To Open More Doors For More Blue Beetles"

It sure sounds as if director Angel Manuel Soto's Blue Beetle film, starring Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, will open the door for Ted Kord.

Previously, we covered an interview with Susan Sarandon that dropped a potential clue as to the status of Ted Kord in the upcoming Blue Beetle film, and a new interview with star Xolo Maridueña is only adding fuel to the fire.

Speaking to Fandango, Xolo implied that if the Blue Beetle movie does well at the box office and audiences respond favorably, expect James Gunn and the rest of the team at DC Studios to move forward with more Blue Beetle projects.

"I have had the pleasure of getting to speak to Mr. James Gunn and the whole DC fam. At the end of the day, we have to cross this first hill and introduce Jaime to the world. It’s up to the audience to watch the movie, if it does well, we get to open more doors for more Blue Beetles. And not even just the people up here, we have a whole thing setup...So many Beetles to choose from, so many comics to choose from...We're ready to do it again, if the crowd wants it."

Again, regardless of what's being said at the moment, James Gunn and co. are taking a wait-and-see approach before deciding on what characters and actors, prior to the release of Superman: Legacy, will move forward into the new DC cinematic universe.

Previously Gunn, stated, "Everything from Superman forward…will be canon and will be connected. We're using some actors from the past. We're not using other actors from the past, but everything from that moment will be connected and consistent."

Notice that since The Flash's historic box office failure, there's been no chatter about any of those characters moving forward. Prior to The Flash's release, Gunn's comment on Ezra Miller potentially continuing on as Barry Allen was, "We're just going to have to wait and see. We'll see how things go."

It's probably a safe assumption that Miller's time as Barry Allen is over and that a similar fate will await Maridueña if Blue Beetle fails.

The question that remains is centered around a rumored Ted Kord cameo and whether that actor continues forward or not. As part of the Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters slate, there's a Booster Gold TV series in development, and there are currently rumors swirling that the Ted Kord introduced in Blue Beetle will appear in the show.

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.

Starring alongside Maridueña (“Cobra Kai”) are Adriana Barraza (“Rambo: Last Blood,” “Thor”), Damían Alcázar (“Narcos,” “Narcos: Mexico”), Elpidia Carrillo (“Mayans M.C.,” the “Predator” films), Bruna Marquezine (“Maldivas,” “God Save the King”), Raoul Max Trujillo (the “Sicario” films, “Mayans M.C.”), with Oscar winner Susan Sarandon (“Monarch,” “Dead Man Walking”), and George Lopez (the “Rio and “Smurf” franchises). The film also stars Belissa Escobedo (“American Horror Stories,” “Hocus Pocus 2”) and Harvey Guillén (“What We Do in the Shadows”).

Soto (“Charm City Kings,” “The Farm”) directs from a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (“Miss Bala”), based on characters from DC. John Rickard and Zev Foreman are producing, with Walter Hamada, Galen Vaisman and Garrett Grant serving as executive producers.

To be honest...if it is well reviewed I could see it continuing on. Look at The Suicide Squad. It bombed and they made the director the head of DC.

@Forthas - Gunn is special, often directors with a this kind of failure won't be able to make any high budget movies again. Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was great so I think WB made the right choice with him. I'm excited for his Superman.

I don’t think it will do well which is unfortunate because i think it could be fun.

I just hope we don’t lose Xolo because he’s perfect casting for Jaime Reyes imo.

@TheVisionary25 - I could see a world where Xolo wins the right people over to continue playing the character regardless of box office results. Throw his Blue Beetle into some future DC projects and build his popularity with fans before giving him another film of his own. There is a Booster Gold project in the works, right?

I personally don't think this movie will do well, I could be wrong though.

If it doesn't do well have Blue Beetle, Ted Kord's version introduced in the Booster Gold movie and carry on from there.

I really hope this isn't the end for Blue Beetle, the suit is great and I like Xolo. I will do my part and watch this during the opening weekend, if reviews aren't bad.

Didn't Gunn assure us that Xolo's Blue Beetle was a part if the DCU not so long back?

Now they're saying there will be more Blue Beetle only IF this movie's successful and it might not be Jaime?!
