BLUE BEETLE Star Susan Sarandon Suggests Most Of The Movie Will Be In Spanish And Subtitled

Blue Beetle star Susan Sarandon has confirmed that she plays the movie's villain, suggesting that a big chunk of this DC Comics adaptation will play out in Spanish with subtitles on screen. Check it out!

There's now less than one year to go before Blue Beetle arrives in theaters...assuming Warner Bros. Discovery doesn't cancel it. The movie was originally set to premiere on HBO Max before the decision was made to take it down the theatrical route, but with an obscure comic book lead, no huge stars, and a costume that looks a little low budget, who knows if it's safe.

We certainly hope Blue Beetle gets to see the light of day, especially when it's set to introduce a major new character to the DC Extended Universe. Jaime Reyes is one of many characters to have held this hero's mantle, but with relatively few Latin comic book characters on screen, it feels particularly impactful that it's this iteration who is taking centre stage here.

Susan Sarandon is set to play the villainous Victoria Kord in the DC Comics adaptation, and recently shared some new information about the movie during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

"What's fabulous about it [is that] it's the first Latinx hero that has his own movie. Even better, all of the Mexican - because his family is Mexican and all of the actors were Mexican or Mexican-American, and it's in Spanish, so it's subtitled," she reveals. "I'm, of course, the bad guy!"

"I'm the white military-industrial complex [character] so I had a fabulous time," Sarandon added. "Because there's nothing better than being bad!"

It's definitely exciting to think that Blue Beetle commits to subtitles and portraying its characters in an authentic way. However, Hollywood also has something of an aversion to them, with the consensus often that people don't want to read in the movie theater (we wish we were kidding). Hopefully, that doesn't impact this potential blockbuster's chances of release.

Blue Beetle is currently set to be released in theaters on August 18, 2023.
