Following a period of radio silence on Marvel Studios' plans for Captain America 4, the project has finally found a director.
THR reports that Nigerian-American filmmaker Julius Onah, best known for helming 2018's The Cloverfield Paradox, has been tapped to direct the fourth installment in the Captain America franchise following the events of The First Avenger, The Winter Soldier, Civil War, and, more directly, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
Anthony Mackie is set to reprise the role of Sam Wilson after officially accepting the shield and mantle of Captain America in the season finale of the Disney+ series. We assume Sebastian Stan will also return as Bucky Barnes, but that's yet to be confirmed. Original Sentinel of Liberty Chris Evans' (Steve Rogers) status is also unclear.
Pot details remain under wraps, but a rumor that Red Skull's biological daughter Sinthea Schmidt, aka Sin, is being lined up as the main villain did the rounds last year.
TFATWS head writer Malcolm Spellman is penning the script with Dalan Musson. Shooting is expected to commence before the end of the year.
Onah's short films garnered a lot of acclaim on the festival circuit, which led to J.J. Abrams enlisting him to direct The Cloverfield Paradox. The sci-fi flick is generally regarded as a misfire, but his next feature, 2019's indie drama Luce, was far better received.
