CAPTAIN AMERICA 4 Finds Director In THE CLOVERFIELD PARADOX Filmmaker Julius Onah

Following a period of radio silence on Marvel Studios' plans for Captain America 4, the project has finally found a director.

THR reports that Nigerian-American filmmaker Julius Onah, best known for helming 2018's The Cloverfield Paradox, has been tapped to direct the fourth installment in the Captain America franchise following the events of The First Avenger, The Winter Soldier, Civil War, and, more directly, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Anthony Mackie is set to reprise the role of Sam Wilson after officially accepting the shield and mantle of Captain America in the season finale of the Disney+ series. We assume Sebastian Stan will also return as Bucky Barnes, but that's yet to be confirmed. Original Sentinel of Liberty Chris Evans' (Steve Rogers) status is also unclear.

Pot details remain under wraps, but a rumor that Red Skull's biological daughter Sinthea Schmidt, aka Sin, is being lined up as the main villain did the rounds last year.

TFATWS head writer Malcolm Spellman is penning the script with Dalan Musson. Shooting is expected to commence before the end of the year.

Onah's short films garnered a lot of acclaim on the festival circuit, which led to J.J. Abrams enlisting him to direct The Cloverfield Paradox. The sci-fi flick is generally regarded as a misfire, but his next feature, 2019's indie drama Luce, was far better received.

Not good🤡

Wtf🥲

Edit: everyone is talking about Luce and I did research and everyone seems to love it so I'll check it out. Also we gotta remember what the Russo's directed before they hit it big with the MCU so hope springs eternal❤️🔥💪

Probably the worst director you could possibly find for a project, this is hilarious. ROFL xD

@Scarilian - asinine, Uwe Boll is still around.

@DR3D - It was (to me) both amusing and pathetic the way Boll complained about The Avengers film around the 1:20 point of this video. What a sore loser.

Reads the news and is pleased because paradox was enjoyable
...then scrolls down to the comments and is confused

@Vigor

I don’t remember a thing from paradox but it essentially killed Cloverfield movies for a while.

@Vigor - nobody in these comments saw Luce. I’d be worried if every movie he made wasn’t good but Luce is ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC

Paradox was a forgettable poorly directed mess, probably one of the worst choices of director they could possibly get.

@Vigor - I found Cloverfield Paradox one of the worst films of that year. Awful 😂 but man I’m hoping the director has done better stuff outside of Paradox.

He did direct Luce with Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, and Octavia Spencer so there's still hope. On a different note, cool to have a Nigerian behind the camera.

@MCUKnight11 - Yeah but a Nigerian behind the camera for Captain AMERICA? C'mon...

Paradox wasn't very good. Im not familiar with anything else he has done, so holding concerns but....not a good start.

Unfamiliar with the director. Personally, I hope Bucky isn't in it. They didn't really play well off each other in TFATWS. Let Sam spread his wings. Maybe bring in that other falcon and develop that instead

@Crtdacct2say - I did like their dynamic enough, but I don't really need to see Bucky again either. He ended up in a place in TFATWS where I feel his arc is complete

I would love a Carl Lumby flashback from when he was Captain America

Bucky bout to meet his maker or what? Not familiar with the director but good to know it's actually happening. Looking forward to the "not my captain america" threads
