We haven't seen Tim Blake Nelson's Samuel Sterns since his transformation into The Leader during the closing moments of 2008's The Incredible Hulk. However, he'll make his long-awaited return in next February's Captain America: Brave New World

Talking to GamesRadar+ at last weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, the actor shared his excitement about joining the Captain America franchise before confirming The Leader "hasn't been sitting around" since we last saw him.

Despite plans for the iconic Hulk villain to be brought to life with practical effects, Nelson strongly hinted at a comic-accurate take on the villain.

"You can go and look in the comics for hints of what we're up to," he says. "I think that the expansion of that into film language is going to astonish."

The site also caught up with Giancarlo Esposito; during Marvel Studios' Hall H panel, we learned that he's playing Sidewinder, a character the Breaking Bad star sounds excited to delve into in the MCU over multiple projects.

"Well, you know, in the research I've done when I knew that I was going to be playing the head of the Serpent Society, someone who formed it and runs it, I wanted to know more," he explains. "I wanted to go back [and] figure out what are his colors, what do they look like, what do they do, what are his superpowers?"

"I don't believe that all of those things will be unveiled in this movie, so I believe there will be more time you'll get with Sidewinder...you're going to see a complicated, very interesting character who gets a chance to have legs over a period of time."

The actor also shared new insights into Captain America: Brave New World's plot and how the Serpent Society factors into that. "It's all about this Adamantium, it's all about this chemical," Esposito reveals. "It's all about what price we're going to put on that and who's going to have the most of it and who's going to sell it.

"So in a way I think many of the characters in this movie, inclusive of Sidewinder, are mercenaries and they're looking for the highest dollar and I think they're looking who to sell it to and I think they're looking for power."

After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.

Captain America: Brave New World opens in U.S. theaters on February 14, 2025.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - That suit looks like NERF football material😂 Cheaper than COSPLAY. Even the CW Superman suit looks better..the red panties throws me off in this modern era wearing 1930's strongman undies. No MUSCLE definition..just a chubby Superman. This movie will be funny/goofy & will FAIL. DC will be FOR SALE after this!

@mck13 - What are you on about? The Suit looks great, thats classic Superman mixed with a hint of New52. The only thing that failed was your precious Snyderverse. James Gunn has never made a bad comicbook film. you're so bitter you're just throwing hate over a film you've never seen lol

I wonder if Sidewinder was the "mysterious buyer" from Antman and the Wasp

@cubrn - I feel like he’s moreso a mercenary so I doubt he would hire someone else for a job.

That was clearly a clue, as the Leader’s first appearance was in “Tales to Astonish”

Going by Esposito’s comments , I have a feeling that perhaps what we have seen of him thus far isn’t from the middle of the film where he’s hunting Sam as speculated but perhaps at the beginning…

I could see Sidewinder and the Serpent Society (who seem to be mercenaries in this) perhaps having been hired by The Leader to steal some Adamantium for him until they are stopped by Sam but Rosa Salazar’s character escapes with it.

I don’t think we’ll see much more of him since he was added in reshoots which only lasted a week or so though he did say we would see him in a D+ show later on , perhaps in the second season of DD that’s set to film soon?.

What has me Super Excited for Captain America: Brave New World is it's following Captain America: Winter Soldier tone. The Hulk will not be the joke but looked at seriously.

@Fogs - The Smart Hulk will show up first to follow the timeline. I think somewhere in the movie something will make the Hulk Angry and change him back to the Monster again. My gut tells be Betty Ross will die in this movie to make the Hulk very Angry.

@AllsGood - that was my theory as well. They won't keep smart Hulk for too long.

Hope they do it right, cause for all effects bruce forgot about betty a long time ago, nat took her place.

@Fogs - Never lovers Bruce Banner even told Nat I / We can't have this.

@AllsGood - Nah, that was more about his physical condition, just like he was almost transforming when kissing Betty in TIH. They pushed their romance from the get-go, with Nat being the one person that kept his sanity in Sakar, and with his suffering when she died in EG.

BTW, I don't have a problem with that, but they'll need to write it really well if they want us to believe Betty was the love of his life or something like that after all these years.

Adamantium is a chemical?

@Batmandalorian - It's an alloy. Alloys have a chemical composition. Why he said chemical instead of alloy?
Maybe he just wanted to provide some low hanging fruit.

For people who aren't deep thinkers, like myself, the expansion he is referring to is his forehead.

I am intrigued. This could possibly be very good.

Then I remember it is headlined by not very dynamic unpowered FalCap and has no Winter Soldier Bucky in it.

Rats.
