Like many 2024 movies, Captain America: Brave New World was caught up in last year's WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes. Much has been made of plans for reshoots and thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we finally have an idea of what's really happening.
Despite claims that huge chunks of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier follow-up are being reshot over several months, the trade confirms this additional photography will last only 22 days.
The plan is to add new action sequences and Julius Onah will remain in the director's chair.
When the strikes ended last November, Captain America: Brave New World moved from July 26, 2024 to February 14, 2025. That reportedly gave Marvel Studios executives additional time to figure out what they wanted from reshoots and to address feedback from test screenings.
As we've previously reported, Moon Knight scribe Matthew Orton was enlisted to write new pages in December and worked on those over the winter.
"Despite reports of multiple reshoots on the movie, so far this is the only one," the report confirms. "It does not appear to be as extensive as the reshoots that faced Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which lasted six weeks, nor the expensive and extensive reshoots endured by The Marvels."
"In fact, one insider says Brave New World will cost significantly less than The Marvels overall."
It's now also been confirmed that Breaking Bad, The Boys, and The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito has joined the cast of Captain America: Brave New World. He's part of the reshoots and, according to THR, "is officially on the call sheet in an undisclosed, but sources say, villainous role."
So, yes, he's playing another baddie! There's still no word on who that might be, though there's a lot of speculation online about Esposito potentially playing Jacob "Jake" Fury, the younger brother of Nick Fury.
The actor previously confirmed he'll make a cameo appearance in an MCU movie before taking on a larger role in a TV series.
Captain America: Brave New World's cast includes Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Liv Tyler, Xosha Roquemore, and WWE Superstar Seth Rollins.
Julius Onah helms the movie from a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, though the director is believed to have also taken a pass at it. Matthew Orton, meanwhile, has written new scenes for the additional photography which is now taking place in Atlanta, Georgia.
Captain America: Brave New World is set to arrive in theaters on February 14, 2025.
