Giancarlo Esposito Joins CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD As A [SPOILER] - Truth About Reshoots Revealed

Like many 2024 movies, Captain America: Brave New World was caught up in last year's WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes. Much has been made of plans for reshoots and thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we finally have an idea of what's really happening.

Despite claims that huge chunks of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier follow-up are being reshot over several months, the trade confirms this additional photography will last only 22 days.

The plan is to add new action sequences and Julius Onah will remain in the director's chair.

When the strikes ended last November, Captain America: Brave New World moved from July 26, 2024 to February 14, 2025. That reportedly gave Marvel Studios executives additional time to figure out what they wanted from reshoots and to address feedback from test screenings.

As we've previously reported, Moon Knight scribe Matthew Orton was enlisted to write new pages in December and worked on those over the winter.

"Despite reports of multiple reshoots on the movie, so far this is the only one," the report confirms. "It does not appear to be as extensive as the reshoots that faced Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which lasted six weeks, nor the expensive and extensive reshoots endured by The Marvels."

"In fact, one insider says Brave New World will cost significantly less than The Marvels overall."

It's now also been confirmed that Breaking Bad, The Boys, and The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito has joined the cast of Captain America: Brave New World. He's part of the reshoots and, according to THR, "is officially on the call sheet in an undisclosed, but sources say, villainous role."

So, yes, he's playing another baddie! There's still no word on who that might be, though there's a lot of speculation online about Esposito potentially playing Jacob "Jake" Fury, the younger brother of Nick Fury.

The actor previously confirmed he'll make a cameo appearance in an MCU movie before taking on a larger role in a TV series.

Captain America: Brave New World's cast includes Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Liv Tyler, Xosha Roquemore, and WWE Superstar Seth Rollins.

Julius Onah helms the movie from a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, though the director is believed to have also taken a pass at it. Matthew Orton, meanwhile, has written new scenes for the additional photography which is now taking place in Atlanta, Georgia.

Captain America: Brave New World is set to arrive in theaters on February 14, 2025.

So we'll see him in this first and then a D+ show afterwards.

@TheVisionary25 - Can only be born again or Ironheart. BA is literally the month after BNW.

@MCUKnight11 - seriously their tv shows have been atrocious. Wonder if Daredevil can redeem it.

@MCUKnight11 - Well those are the only two with an official release date after but there is the list of other shows that there are rumors about such as Hawkeye, Vision's show, Nova, Moon Knight season 2, Ms. Marvel season two etc...

...seems unlikely all those will be coming soon, least before Avengers 5 anyway if only getting two per year but there is likely at least on other show prior to the next Avengers film that isn't confirmed yet he could be in or maybe a couple between that and Secret Wars.

What a waste of Esposito.

@BreakTheCode - Well, it won't be the first time they waste a great actor on a throwaway villain.
RegularPoochie
RegularPoochie - 5/31/2024, 10:02 PM
@BreakTheCode - And you know that how? He can be a long term villain and is just introduced in this and by that I mean it's said vilainous, wich doesn't mean villain and it's explained even on this article ffs,
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 5/31/2024, 11:44 PM
@BreakTheCode - Have you ever thought it's the actor's decision and not the studio...
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 6/1/2024, 4:20 AM
@Tonic24k - You mean the actor who's tired of being typecast as villains and wants to play someone heroic for once?
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 6/1/2024, 7:19 AM
@ObserverIO - Easily could be one who starts out as an antagonist but becomes a hero, or is sort of a good guy from the get-go but starts out on the wrong side as depends on the narrative of BNW. Just cos somebody calls him villainous doesn't mean that is entirely accurate if being manipulated or if Cap ends up going against the/a Government in some way.
Chuck420Taylor
Chuck420Taylor - 6/1/2024, 7:43 AM
@ObserverIO - the funny thing is I think he's only been typecast since breaking bad. Heck wasn't he also an ally in The Maze Runner? When I first saw him it was in the 90s and he was playing an Italian cop in Baltimore.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 6/1/2024, 8:56 AM
@Chuck420Taylor - Strange thing of Hollyweird in general, some can do hundreds of differing roles so brilliantly the audience doesn't recall who the actor was cos they were so convincing until they end up with a couple of iconic roles they become so recognised for they can end up typecast.

@Toecutter -
Mads Mikkelsen - Kaecilius
Guy Pearce - Killian
Christopher Eccelson - Malekith
Mickey Rourke - Whiplash
Jude Law - Yawn-Rogg
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 6/4/2024, 9:39 AM
@ObserverIO - If that's the case, why would he go for this role and/or accept this role?... He doesn't owe anyone anything. He's an actor with an agent, not an employee. He can do whatever tf he wants.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 6/4/2024, 11:44 AM
@Tonic24k - because he wanted to do a Marvel movie and this is all they would offer him?

I mean, if I wanted to do a Marvel movie and they turned me down for all the roles I wanted, I'd probably still be up for it if they had anything else.

Dear God. I’m tired of this bullshit.

And if he is indeed playing a less important character, then like my boy @BreakTheCode said, “What a [frick]ing waste.”
Scarilian

This film is going to be extremely unlikely to break-even. I don't see the point of them continually doing reshoots and spending more on this disaster.
Itwasme
Itwasme - 5/31/2024, 6:15 PM
@Scarilian - this vmarticle is literally about how there aren't extensive reshoots and the budget is much lower than other films...literally, this very article.
