Marvel Rumored To Have Removed All References To Sabra Being Israeli From CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD

Despite reports indicating that Sabra would retain her Israeli heritage in Captain America: Brave New World, we're now hearing that the character's origin has been changed...

Marvel Studios' decision to introduce Israeli superhero Sabra in Captain America: Brave New World was met with a fair amount of backlash when Shira Hass' casting was first announced, and the controversy was reignited after the release of the first trailer back in July.

In the comics, Sabra, aka Ruth Bat-Seraph, is a mutant with superhuman strength, speed, agility, reflexes, endurance, and stamina. She first appeared in the pages of The Incredible Hulk back in 1980 as a Mossad (the Israeli Secret Service) agent.

Marvel later revealed that this part of her origin will be altered, and the character will be reimagined as a former Black Widow. The Wrap followed up by claiming that Sabra (this name will likely be dropped) will speak "with an Israeli accent, and is an Israeli former Black Widow who now serves as a high-ranking U.S. government official in President Ross’ (Harrison Ford) administration."

Deborah Camiel, Director of the Anti-Defamation League’s Media & Entertainment Institute, responded: “We’re pleased to learn that Sabra will be retaining her Israeli identity in ‘Captain America, Brave New World,’ and is still being portrayed by the wonderful Israeli actress Shira Haas. Marvel Studios should be commended for not capitulating to the anti-Israel forces who wanted this character’s identity quashed, along with her backstory. We welcome the portrayal of a strong Jewish and Israeli woman on screen, and look forward to seeing how this character is developed in the film.”

This always seemed to be one of those situations where, no matter what the studio does with this character, somebody was going to take issue, but we're now hearing that Marvel may have decided to play it as safe as possible.

According to Daniel Richtman, all connections to Sabra being from Israel have been removed from the film. Apparently, the movie was going to feature a scene with Ruth telling Sam that she is a Mutant, but she will now be a powerless former Black Widow.

After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.

Captain America: Brave New World stars Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, with Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford. The film is directed by Julius Onah and produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore. Louis D’Esposito and Charles Newirth serve as executive producers.

Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World opens in U.S. theaters on February 14, 2025.

@campblood - Usual stuff, fighting with Palestine or Hamas over The Holy Land. God must be real proud of them all for killing each other in his name huh?

But very recently, they got attacked by hundreds of ballistic missiles from Iran, Which knowing Israel means they'll retaliate tenfold at some point.

Meanwhile the sensible people just hope things don't escalate to the point that someone has to fire a nuke just to prove they're a real grown boy.

@Diend - You’re seriously acting like Palestinians are the issue here, but have you thought about the fact that she’s Israeli and originally a Mossad agent—an organisation tied to oppression, assassinations, and land theft? Palestinians are the natives, fighting to protect their homes and families against an occupation that’s taken so much from them. Just because someone’s Israeli doesn’t erase the painful history and suffering caused. Maybe it’s time to reflect on who’s really being oppressed and why people are resisting.

@Killuminatic - funny how everyone waving their Palestine flags say things like you just said:
“fighting to protect their homes and families against an occupation that’s taken so much from them.“

But when it comes to all the illegals invading this country, it’s “you’re being racist! They have every right to come!”
Killuminatic
Killuminatic - 10/5/2024, 11:15 PM
@IronMan616 - You’re comparing two completely different situations. Palestinians are fighting against a military occupation that’s displaced them from their own land for decades. That’s not the same as people seeking refuge or a better life in another country. Bringing up immigration to deflect from human rights abuses in Palestine doesn’t change the facts. The oppression Palestinians face is real, and it’s not about “illegals” or borders—it’s about people trying to survive in their own homeland. Don’t confuse the two.
Killuminatic
Killuminatic - 10/5/2024, 11:18 PM
And by the way, calling people “illegals invading” is completely misleading. Migration isn’t an invasion. People crossing borders are often fleeing violence or looking for better opportunities—not trying to take over a country. Using language like that just stirs up fear and ignores the real human issues at play. Comparing this to Palestinians resisting a military occupation is completely off the mark.

@Killuminatic - Exactly! Israel is invading and has invaded another country. For the sole purpose of taking their land. That's not immigration

@TheLobster - you’re such a slogan regurgitating machine. I’m an Israeli. I’ve lived here for 35 years. Never did anything to any Palestinian, and I’d even love to finally have peace with them. A lot of us would. They elected a terror organization whose only objectives are to destroy the little satan (Israel), destroy the big satan (the US) and to have an Islamist rule all over the Middle East. 4 days ago 2 Hamas terrorists from the West Bank went to Jaffa, one of the biggest mixed Muslim-Jewish cities in Israel. They first went to a mosque told everyone their that if they get out of the mosque they’ll kill them, and then they began randomly spraying at civilians with an m16. They killed a mother who was carrying her baby. There are pictures of them smiling while doing it. This was on the same train I take back from work every day. More and more videos of Hamas beating and killing Gazans who try to take the aid that’s coming in, while Hamas gunmen steal all that aid for themselves. Gazans themselves have testified this. Look for Hamza Howidyy on IG for more info. My point is, their leadership has been for decades focused on destroying Israel, more than it was on improving their people’s lives, and we have had enough. I have no problem discussing Israel’s wrongdoings, because I do believe iour government is not innocent of anything, but you just completely ignore the fact that at least 4 countries hijacked and run by terrorists, islamists tyrants are attacking us nonstop, and make it look like we’re doing this for fun. You people are so completely ignorant, and arrogantly so, it’s infuriating. My 5 year old son runs to shelters and could easily die if one of these terrorists gets to him, and you’re just like casually spewing BS you see on TikTok by people who have nothing to do with this region

@Killuminatic - unvetted illegals are a cancer to this country. They’re criminals and by coming here, illegally without getting vetted is an invasion and are colonists.

They’re not fleeing violence, they’re bringing the violence.

@ganganor - I’m not reading that novel but here’s a fun act - my dad was raised in Israel and served in the IDF growing up so I know the history of Israel decent enough.. and it’s [frick]ing foul.

You’re disgusting if you can justify the genocide to yourself because of Hamas. You’re also a colonizer if you don’t see the displacement of Palestinians as an atrocity so why care what you think? Do some soul searching and stop eating up the bullshit fed to you. You’re no different than a MAGA chud otherwise.

@TheLobster - Kol Ha'kavod, habibi. I see you're completely willing to have an actual mature, in-depth discussion by deciding not to read my "novel" of a comment. You are fire, my guy.

So you know one person who served in the IDF? Awesome... I also know quite a bit. Like all of my friends, my family, every person I ever worked and studied with. Myself (though not in a combatant position). I've heard recent stories from the field of 11-12 year old kids being sent by an adult hiding behind walls and sending them to plant bombs next to tanks or act as distractions or baits, because they know our forces are under direct orders not to shoot at children, women or civilians in general. I know of so many soldiers that lost their lives because of ultra security measures being taken to not harm civilians.

If you still spew this genocide nonsense, you can listen to urban warfare expert, John Spencer, and colonel Richard Kemp who are speaking facts from reports and analysis and actually being on te ground, who confirm Israel is fihgting very much in accordance with military laws and regulations.

I imagine you won't be reading this novel as well, but again, maybe you'd like to hear from actual Palestinians like Bassem Eid, Hamza Howidyy, Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib who talk about the horrors Hamas has been putting their people through. Hamas, Hezbollah and the big boss the IRGC, they are our enemies. And they use their people (the IRGC is only using other people's civilians) as tools against us, and people like you give them more reasons to continue to do so.

I hope your dad knows you and your friends are literally helping in putting the lives of people from his country in jeopardy by spreading this gross misinformation and simplistic point of view. To you, I'm nothing but a colonizer that needs to be destroyed, even though I was born here and lived here for all my life. Thanks for being such a broad minded, peace loving progressive person
Killuminatic

@IronMan616 - Labelling people fleeing their home countries as “colonists” is not only wrong but a complete misrepresentation of what colonisation actually is. Colonisers historically were groups backed by governments or empires, sent with the specific intent to seize land, dominate indigenous populations, and exploit resources. Migrants seeking safety from violence, economic hardship, or persecution are not trying to “colonise” anything. They are simply trying to survive, often fleeing conditions that are unbearable, and labelling them as “colonists” completely distorts the truth.

Referring to them as “unvetted illegals” and “a cancer” is deeply dehumanising. Many of these individuals are fleeing extreme violence, war, corruption, and situations worsened by global inequalities and power dynamics. These aren’t criminals or invaders—they are families, children, and individuals who have been forced to make impossible decisions in the face of dire circumstances. They are not bringing violence; they are escaping it. There is no evidence to support the myth that immigrants, whether documented or not, commit more violent crimes than native populations. In fact, studies have shown that immigrants are generally less likely to engage in criminal activity.

The rhetoric of “invasion” is nothing more than fearmongering. Migration is a natural part of human history and a necessary response to crises caused by war, poverty, and environmental disasters. People do not leave their homes unless they have no other option. To call this an invasion ignores the root causes of why people are fleeing their countries in the first place. Many of these issues, including violence and poverty in places like Central America or the Middle East, have been exacerbated by global economic policies, colonial legacies, and sometimes even foreign intervention by the very countries these people are fleeing to.

It’s essential to approach these issues with compassion and an understanding of the root causes. Migration doesn’t happen in a vacuum—it’s often a consequence of factors like corrupt regimes, violent conflicts, and collapsing economies, situations that these people didn’t create but are trying to escape. Instead of painting migrants as the problem, we should be looking at why they’re forced to leave their homes and addressing the global systems that contribute to their displacement.

In short, it’s not only factually incorrect to call these migrants “colonists”, it’s a complete misreading of their plight. What they need is compassion and solutions, not dehumanising labels and divisive rhetoric.
