Captain America: Brave New World will put Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson front and centre as the MCU's new Star Spangled Avenger. Unlike his predecessor, Steve Rogers, Sam has no superpowers, and we saw how much John Walker struggled before taking the Super Soldier Serum.
With The Leader and the Serpent Society set to take aim at Cap, Sam could find himself in serious trouble, especially if the rumours about General (and soon-to-be-President) "Thunderbolt" Ross transforming into Red Hulk are correct.
While that still hasn't been officially confirmed, we've heard of those plans from enough reliable sources to believe the red-skinned behemoth will make his MCU debut a couple of years from now; of course, the fact Harrison Ford was spotted on set in torn pants also lends some weight to rumours of a Red Hulk appearance!
Today, scooper @CanWeGetToast is claiming to have learned new details about Marvel Studios' Red Hulk plans, including a comic-accurate take on the villain it's fair to say most of us didn't expect to see on screen.
It's said that Ross' rage as Red Hulk will see him burst into flame, just like the character did on the page during his early appearances. In fact, the heat he lets off will be so intense, it actually melts Cap's Vibranium wings!
Clearly, the President has some serious anger issues.
We're still no sure how this Captain America can possibly take on a Hulk, but it's likely the plan is for Sam to acquire superpowers throughout the course of Brave New World. Relatively extensive reshoots are taking place next year with a focus on action, so it's worth noting these plans could change.
Promoting Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny earlier this year, the Red Hulk/tattered pants theory was presented to Ford who responded by saying, "What is the Red Hulk?" Seemingly feigning confusion, the iconic actor then turned to co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge to chastise her for not knowing more about the character and concluded by saying Red Hulk "may or it may not" be included.
Captain America: Brave New World stars Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Liv Tyler, and WWE Superstar Seth Rollins. Julius Onah helms the movie from a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, though the director is believed to have also taken a pass at it.
Captain America: Brave New World arrives in theaters on February 14, 2025.
