We all wondered if Marvels
Captain America:The First Avenger had enough charisma, appeal and promotional strength to dethrone the phenom that is
Harry Potter from his perch at the top of the ladder. Well, according to DEADLINE, he most certainly does.
Captain America:The First Avenger took in over 26 million Friday to unseat the teenage wizard (who's film still managed to rake in 16 million) from the number 1 spot. It also looks very likely that
Captain America should manage to pull in 66 million by the end of the weekend which would give the film the honor of having the best opening weekend of all this summers superhero movies.
Of course, it is still very much up in the air just how the film will be received world wide but this is a very promising start.
After being deemed unfit for military service, Steve Rogers volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America's ideals.
Joe Johnston's
Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell and Tommy Lee Jones.
Hawksblueyes: This is great news to me as I have worried about the reception and timing of this film for some time. I'm going to see this film this afternoon and while I am not known for my reviews, you can certainly expect one for
Cap.
